I have been feeling the same way Nicole. Keene might be a too quiet for us. Ohh I love the idea of having a shop in Portsmouth. For the pre-grand opening, I could make it a NH-CD member night. And then of course, you all would have to make it a point of stopping by my shop, when in the area. Ok, sorry for getting off topic a bit, but Nicole started it. Haha.

The Portsmouth area is busy by NH standards but would still be a slower pace compared to So Cal.
Just imagine-a forum get together at Friendly toast followed by yummy cupcakes at Suzet's Bake shop-yummy!
Oh, Suzet! Even though I've only "known" you for a short while, I think you'd love Portsmouth! I went to UNH, did my internship in Portsmouth, and my best friend lived there. One of my most favorite places in the whole world. It has a certain cachet (sp?) that you don't find in other NH cities. I'm not a city girl by any stretch of the imagination, but if I had the money and the choice of where I lived & worked...Portsmouth would be at the top of the list.

Wow, thanks for the glowing recomedation of Portsmouth. My husband really wants to check it out more than any other town we have looked at. As Lisa stated, since we come from the same town, moving to Portsmouth would be less of a shock to my family and myself. I have been told by more than one person here, that Keene, however beautiful it is, might be a bit too rual for us. We will see when we come out for our visit.
As for the spelling...haha, I mess up more words. My spelling gets worse as I get older.
I don't want to bash Keene, especially since I've only been there a few times in my life, but that neck of the woods just isn't my favorite part of NH. Portsmouth on the other hand is such an inviting city and so close to everything: ocean, beaches, Boston, theatre, arts....and still just a 2-hour or less drive to the mountains. One of the big drags, though, is the cost of real estate in the city proper. My best friend used to live in an old original house in Strawberry Banke. The house had such character, but it had a yard the size of a postage stamp, and parking (if you can even call it that) for just 1 car. But, I LOVED that house and the neighborhood.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. My problem is that I'm looking for acreage (approx 30+) in a certain price range (<$450K), so I guess you could say that limits things. Also, add on that we'd like to say as close to S. NH as possible to keep the drive back to LI as possible. Also, getting to an airport is a consideration as well, as both of us travel extensively for both business and pleasure.
We're going to have to revisit the map of NH, and see what areas we are missing and on the next trip, spend more time in other areas.
