Default Is this weather normal?

For all of you long time New England folks...please discuss.

Folks tell me summers are usually dry and fairly cool with some period hot/humid/stormy spells. It appears this summer is one big humid/stormy spell. Does this happen every so many years? Is this a first? Just wondering- I can't stand it. I'm away on business and I could not stop worrying about my wife being home during such bad storms...

It seems a bit out of "normal". We here on the Cape have been experiencing lots of thunderstorms. Way more than in the past. It's fine with me though. We could always use the rain water. We have had serious drought conditions in the past which prompted water use restrictions. So, I'll take the water. It has been humid though!! A/C cranking at work has been the only savior this summer!! Oh, yeah...the beaches work too!! LOL!

NH has had it's share of problems this summer with rain. Obviously this last bit was tragic. Flash flooding is hard to predict and where there is water running, it could always be a risk. I think these things come and go. Next year could be as dry as the Sahara, who knows. It's New England!! Like the old Yankee saying goes..."If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes!"

It has been horribly wet the past two months although May was quite dry. Several counties in NH are currently under flash flood warnings. If you don't have to venture out I would say being inside is a good bet as we have another huge batch of rain moving in. Some hilly roads could be quite treacherous and dangerous in these conditions.

This summer is probably the stormiest I can remember, and the tornadoes, flash floods, etc. are definitely abnormal. The only thing worse in recent memory were the floods in May '06. Unfortunately, it seems like we've had isolated flooding incidents for the past 4 years or so, which are certainly not common in this part of the country.

I should point out that the summers are rarely particularly "dry" here. Unlike in other parts of the country, New England usually receives a consistent level of precipitation year-round. This year we just happened to have a very snowy winter, a dry spring, and a very wet summer. Maybe the fall will bring some relief from the rain and even things out again.

No, it's been an unusually wet summer.

Blah.....I think I'm going to turn into a mushroom with all this rain! The stormwater drain in front of our house was overflowing and filling the drainage ditch to the brim this afternoon.

Weather this summer is not normal from my years here from a young child to present.
June and July where warmer then normal with storms- August has been humid and clammy with more storms, lots of strange lightening displays- the most bizarre I have ever seen- and tropical like downpours- again something I have not seen in the past.

This week sems more of the same.

We've only been in northern NH for a little over 2 years, but in speaking with the "locals" and those who have been here longer, they pretty much say this is not the norm. Yesterday morning I darn near froze, I was so cold - looked at the temp and it was 47 degrees

Saturday was a decent day - we even had sun! I wasn't sure what that thing in the sky was, it had been so long Hubby did get to mow the lawn finally and we went out to dinner with the sun shining! It was his b'day, so maybe the weather decided to give him a nice day for it.

This week we're supposed to have yet more rain - we keep getting the flash flood warnings and alerts. I'm just hoping this cycle ends before the snow starts!

Up here, at least the past 2 summers, we haven't had much humidity. This is our 3rd summer and we haven't put the a/c units in - a fan in the window keeps it comfortable in the house. When riding around, I see very few window units this year - other summers you could see them in most windows.

I can't wait to see the sun for a prolonged period again!

The rain Sunday afternoon were the most severe I have ever seen in New Hampshire. Our gauge recorded over 2 in of rain in 1.5 hours from several thunderstorms. Usually this part of August is quite hot with ocassional short afternoon/evening thunderstorms. I can only hope that this much precipitation does not arrive at this rate in the winter.

I have my 21 yr old daughter visiting me and my 10 yr old niece and it has been a real pain trying to find indoor things to do. They wanted to go to the shore today and an amusement park tomorrow <sigh>

Back to the computer to find more museums....
