Easy debunk. Everybody knows the government has been developing death-rays for use in the next war. Why would they buy up old brass. No. That's silly. They're buying up electricity. Mostly from frivolous internet uses. I'm surprised they havn't bought the juice powering this thread yet, but you'll have your proof if I get cut +++

Seriously: if steel was being diverted for tank building, that would mean that the steel mills would already be at peak production...which they aren't. It would mean that the news would be full of auto plant problems due to steel shortages - which it isn't, they're closing due to low sales not low materials. And trust me, the Washington Post would be full of letters and articles about building tanks with commandeered steel (just ask BF or some of the others who lived in Northern VA! Not sure if NotDancingQueen got the Post or the Sun). None of this is happening, so I just don't believe that's what happened to your steel.
It certainly is a shame, though, not to finish the bridge.

Unless the bridge was made out of Titanium...I don't really see why the government would have any use for it- there is not exactly a steel shortage (many foundries are under-utilized and shutting down) although we do import most of our titanium from Russia.
Whoever came up with this joyous little fib knows little of the military-industrial complex.
I also saw the post regarding ammo...that could make sense- his supplier could be the same company providing materials for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and simply be out; just like Apple ran out of IPhones when the demand got high- no biggie.

The military does not use reloaded ammunition (recycled cartridge cases for the uninitiated).
For instance, who reloads tracer ammunition? Every 5th round on belt ammo is tracer.

I guess I did not read the whole post...it was for reloading? In that case never mind its BS. I thought the guy was trying to buy new "parts" (casings, primers, etc) and they were on back order because the military was buying it (my assumption being that the company in question also sold fully assembled ammunition to the military and they were simply diverting their resources from consumer to government sales...)

No. He was buying "New" brass to reload at his shop. He reloads for security dept and police etc. He also does any custom loading that you want. Just tell him what it's for, how fast you want it to go, or whatever. Guy knows his stuff. He told me that his supplier of "new" brass has been cut off.

Cut off perhaps for other reasons (e.g. credit) rather than some incredibly well-kept secret government stockpiling?
