It's just a blind to cover rollout of the newest technology. Transponder-based phasers and transparent aluminum are so 20th century.

since the thread got brought back....

Hey, I found where all the steel was sent to! For some reason I can't fathom, they've been putting in miles of guardrail along Rt 29 in Columbia MD (for NDQ - all up and down near the Columbia Mall). Now, this is a center line between the north and south lanes, there's already a wide grassy median with bushes and plants in many places. And no, there's not that many cars that go into or cross the median into the other lane. So why on earth are they putting up all this long line of STEEL guardrail? not a clue, but they must have gotten a deal by nabbing stuff meant for MFWIC's bridge!

The OP was also the same person who mentioned he was hiking in Sandwich and killed the bear. I live in Sandwich, which is a one horse town, and never heard that story over the weekend. I wonder how the bear crossed the the road if there was no bridge? BUT I do understand now why he killed it with his stick instead of bullets!
