I don't even live in NH, I live in CO, and I'm happy you are moving back to CA. I wish all the Californians would leave Colorado as they all seem to have the same mentality as you.

Go back to the crime free, freedom loving, fiscally responsible, utopia of California. And don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I agree. It just proves what a valuable resource City-Data is for those who are thinking of relocating to another area.

Having said that, however, I did laugh out loud at the post and the responses. At least if you have that "yankee" sense of humor - this is funny.

Okay, let's talk about the weather first. We are in the Milford area in southern NH and the winter here is hell! I can't even tell you how many feet of snow we got last winter. At first you might think it would be charming but by April we were going stir crazy from being stuck in the house.

And if you think shoveling this crap is fun, forget it! After 800th snowfall we all had sore backs and were simply tired of digging our car out of this white mess. And if the snow isn't enough then the sub-zero temperatures and icy roads of death made it even worse.

And we're in southern NH! Not northern NH! Think I'm kidding? Then see this story about last year's record snowfall from the Nashua Telegraph:

Nashuatelegraph.com: Record snowfall closes out 2007 in New England

On top of that the people are cold and distant. They don't like newcomers and there's quite a lot of quiet backstabbing that goes on. Even if they are polite face to face, they will stab you in the back when talking to other natives.

As opposed to California? I have so many knife wounds in my back from "friends and neighbors," when I drink water I leak for an hour!.

And - as if that wasn't enough - these people are all gun nuts! You see people with pistols strapped to their hips walking around! And it's legal here. Yes, they can do it and the police can't stop them. The entire state is filled with gun toting lunatics.

Amazing, and New Hampshire has one of the lowest crime rates in the Country and most of the "best places to live" as voted by many national magazines. P.S. I carry a gun everywhere I go in California for my own protection and that of my family. I am licensed in all 50 states. (H.R.215)

I am very well trained and re-certify every 90 days; however I am not a gun toting lunatic.

One of the worst things we saw was a guy in a pickup truck drive by with a dead deer on the hood! The poor thing had blood dripping off of it and this vicious monster drove right by my kids. I could not believe it! And the freaks in this icy hellhole seem to think it's just fine and normal! Apparently they encourage this kind of sick animal violence.

As opposed to violence against each other like here in good old California? Highest crime rate in the nation, overcrowded jails and prisons, worst parolee re-offend/return rate anywhere, overrun with illegal immigration, 5000+ registered sex offenders just in my county alone. (Riverside)

And don't get me started about the property taxes either! They are OUT OF SIGHT!!! I could not believe how much more we paid in taxes here than in southern california. Of course they don't have an income or sales tax...they don't need one! They simply make enough by gouging property owners.

Hmmm.....the Democratic controlled California legislature just proposed another 6 Billion in new taxes to help off set the nearly bankrupt state of California and the Govenator is now proposing another 1% sales tax increase. That will will bring sales tax to 9.25% Welcome Home.

And please don't tell me how "progressive" NH is becoming. I have found it to be the complete opposite. A lot of the so-called Democrats here can be classified as republicans. Some of the democrats are gun nuts too! Aren't democrats supposed to support common sense gun control? This whole place is absolutely insane and I can't wait to get my husband and kids the hell out of here.

In the last eight years under the republican administration, not ONE new gun control law has been passed in spite of the lunatic left and gun deaths continue to go down every year. Most bans on assault weapons have also expired from the old Clinton era, still no breakout in gun violence.

Live Free or Die? Ha! Leave, freeze or die is more like it! To heck with this icy wasteland! We are headed back to southern california and we're leaving the deer killers, snotty natives and idiotic gun nuts behind!

Welcome back. My air conditioner has been running night and day since late May. Last months bill for running power was nearly $750.00..Ouch.

Oh and for those of you who think that NH has a low crime rate, you're crazy! There are all kinds of shootings (a cop even got killed) in Manchester, along with home invasions, drug dealers and a very high rate of drug overdose deaths. Maybe there was a time when NH had a low crime rate but not now. I felt safer in southern california than I do in this backward, desolate mess of a state.

This defies logic......there are over 35 million people in California alone and this state has the highest violent crime and property crime rate in the country....PERIOD. Maybe its been too long since you tuned into the local Southern California news; however Los Angeles will again break a record this year with overall number of murders etc.

On top of all that there are pedophiles galore all over the place. For some reason this state has a higher rate of pedophiles than other states. If you've got kids NH is one of the worst states to bring them to! You better keep an eye on them 24 x 7. And they are also having big trouble with gangs here too. I thought we'd left that behind in california but now it's happening here. MS-13 and other gangs are building their numbers here and crime is on a huge upswing!

And what are these backward hick cops doing about it? Not much. They just seem to be letting it happen. Thanks but no thanks. We are headed out of here and back to California. At least they have semi-effective police there who know how to deal with gangs.

Well most of the time if the police are hampered in their efforts its because the lunatic left (ACLU) American Criminal Liberties Union, will do anything they can to stop any enforcement of any law possible. Especially any immigration law, California's ground Zero.

This republican-infested little backwater of a state is filled with cops that don't know their ass from their elbow. So watch out if you decide to move to the state of New Hampshire.
If this is a true post it sounds to me like you have had a really bad day or just a really bad experience with some issues. I assure you, I still live in your Utopia Southern California and yes, I cannot wait to get out. EVERYTHING you described above awaits you back here ten times over with the exception of the snow.

The good news is you will not have a hard time finding a place to live, what, with over 47,000 foreclosed and abandoned homes in Riverside County alone and climbing at an astonishing rate everyday. Most of these homes are now havens for drug dealers, gang member, arson fires and abandoned green pools and the once proud middle class families living in these "master planned communities" watch as their homes values tank approximalty $3000 a month, every month. This goes for San Diego, Orange, San Bernadino, Los Angeles Counties as well.

When you return, yes you will find the sun through the smog; however, you will also return to a bankrupt state raising your taxes, highest gasoline taxes and prices in the nation, highest crime and illegal immigration rate, overcrowded and underperfor ming schools, hospitals, 22,000 state workers and teachers holding pink slips, a 7.2% unemployment rate and you will have the added benefit of a 3000 mile move.

I am not trying to be offensive to you or your bad experiences you have had in NH; however, I believe anyplace you go can be good or bad depending on your attitude and commitments to making it work.

One question......can I have your snow shovel???

Good luck.

Captjob

Everyone has pretty much said things I thought of, so I won't repeat them here.

What I will say is that I'm very sorry you had such a terrible experience here in NH and I hope you find happiness back in California. NH (or anywhere in the Northeast) is not for everyone. We're transplants and couldn't be happier.....We haven't experienced anything like you have, though, so that may be why....well, with the exception of the snow, we did experience that
