Default Okay...have a laugh at my expense you guys!

I have a little story about what happened to me tonight. It involves a frog, my boys, my husband and a blender. Read on! LOL

First, let me preface this story with a little background.

My husband has a traumatic brain injury after getting shot in the head in Iraq. One of his most endearing qualities is how his brain now operates. We get a bunch of laughs every day (we keep a great sense of humor about us to deal with that stress) and today was just another one of those days.

Secondly, I subscribe to the "catch and release" program. Although I am not a member of PETA, I live in the same area as their corporate headquarters. In fact, I have been to the home of the President of PETA a few times and involve myself in some of their fundraisers. With three boys, they are always bringing home creatures and I teach them to return them to their natural habitat. We've also done a few "rescues" over the years.

Anyway, tonight I had my youngest son upset that Daddy and his oldest brother left him behind to go to the store. Heartbroken, his big brown eyes puddled up with tears, I whisked him into the kitchen for some magic fun of baking a cake together.

He was sent to go wash his hands and put to immediate work helping me make a cake from the box. He put in the mixture, water, oil and even learned how to separate egg whites from the yolks. He's a little pro as Mommy's helper!

When it came time to get the hand mixer and beaters I said "now we have to blend the cake mix". Drake, my doe-eyed boy, said "oh NO Mommy! We can't use the blender!"

Not realizing the next step, he heard me say "blend" and started to get upset. I asked him what the problem was. He proceeded to tell me his side of it....

"We put a frog in the blender and you can't use it"

.....silence as I register what he just said....

"Drake, what do you mean a frog in the blender?" I started to panic!

"Daddy told me to put the frog in the blender!" He said.

I asked again..."What frog?"

"The one that Nick helped me catch!"

Now I am swallowing my heart....I am NOT amused!

"Drake, when did this happen? A long time ago or in the last few days?"

Just then, DH and my oldest (Nick) walked in the door. I was wide-eyed and panicked. I pounced on my DH and said...

"What is this I hear about a frog in the blender?!?!?!" He stopped dead in his tracks. LOL

Then they started laughing. Really laughing hard.

DH proceeded to tell me that the boys had caught a small tree frog and Drake wanted to look at it. DH couldn't find a container that was clear so he grabbed the first thing he saw on the counter....the BLENDER!

Sure enough, there was a cute little tree frog hopping around the inside of the blender, unharmed.

I cannot tell you how on one hand I was truly relieved...and on the other hand madder than a wet hen that a FROG was in my blender!

DH apologized and said he would let it go and wash the blender. I thanked him and said "let me be the one to sanitize it!" LOL

We proceeded to bake the cake using the MIXER and not the blender. I had to explain the difference between appliances to my little guy and then explain why frogs don't belong in the blender any more.

Oy vey!

Awww....thanks. We believe everything happens for a reason. We may not realize it at the time that it happens, but good comes from everything if you allow it. We chose to find the good.

Thanks for reading my story. That's life at my house most days!

The first line containing a frog, boys and a blender had me in stitches - as a mom of 3 boys and a girl I could just picture the inevitable. Thank God it ended better than my imagination had it ending.

I too am sorry to hear about your husband, but do want to thank him and your family for the sacrifices made. The positives are not always easy to see, but I see that you have that pretty much in hand. Thanks for sharing this story and giving us a good chuckle for the evening.

Thanks everyone. My DH is my hero and I thank him every day for coming home alive to be a father and husband. The rest is all details. We've got a great thing going for us keeping a positive attitude. If you can find the humor under fire, you can never go wrong.

My kids keep me on my toes...but DH is the KING of keeping me on my toes!
