JMishy - Okay, that's one thing that confuses me! What exactly constitutes the Mount Washington Valley? When we first moved to Littleton, I was told we were considered the "Upper Valley"....then someone else told me that we are actually the "Upper Upper Valley" - I still haven't figured out what we are!

Ultimately, I don't know if we'll move to NH or have to move elsewhere for more career opportunity, but we'll always have the goal of ending up in NH eventually. We spend at least a month there every summer so the kids can have a taste of the country. Our family's near North Conway.

NH2008 - I'm sorry you're an unhappy CA resident. I had a friend who lived in Silver Spring, MD his whole life. He met a gal from southern CA and after a few years moved out there and married her, but he never really got acclimated. After 4 years, he and his wife agreed to a divorce - she wouldn't leave CA and he just couldn't take it there anymore They were able to remain friends after the divorce and still visit each other, though, so I guess that's a plus.
I hope you find a place where you are happy!

Our daughter has her heart set on attending Dartmouth, but we'll have to wait and see. Also, I'm gathering information but I'm also here to just chat b/c I feel like I've gotten to know several people on here and really enjoy visiting and teasing back and forth with them. It has become part of my daily ritual to get onlline and check on my 'friends'.

LACarole - So....are you saying you're also addicted to the forum?????
My husband was retired from IBM (well, kinda forced into retirement, as his job was off-shored) when we moved and our kids were grown with families of their own. He went from being an IBM-er for 26 years to being a furniture maker now and really enjoys working with his hands. Good luck to your daughter for Dartmouth!

Now have 4 small children (ages 5yr to 11 months) and are looking to make the move the NH in about 4 years. If the real estate market picks up before then and DH can find a job, we will move sooner.
I am a NE girl at heart and always will be. It will be so nice to be close to family.
Don't know which area we will ultimately end up in but I have faith it will all work out great. We can't wait to get home.
Hey- I just realized I have my second green bar-WOW I am so excited
PS: Thank you to everyone for your warm welcome to the NH board. You have all been so great!!!

Hi Cindy - If I haven't welcomed you to the NH board yet - Welcome! I bet you have your hands full with your children! When we moved, we were lucky in that we only had to be concerned about each other, not moving with children as well We were also lucky in that I was able to bring my job with me, so to speak, and we rented in NY, so we didn't have to worry about selling a house first

There are a lot of benefits to living here, but there are still plenty of restrictions on the books, and we need more folks to show up in the legislature (and town hall meetings) to let these guys no that more restrictions are causing more problems than they're worth.

Hi maxxoccupancy - I don't get into any "political" type discussions, but I will say that while I can understand wanting to have more to do as a young person, you also have to be careful as to what those things are and what some things tend to "bring into" an area, especially bars open later, strip clubs and gambling. I saw the area of NY where I lived (which was not a city by any means) pretty much go downhill as more of the above-mentioned things were brought into the area - more shootings and stabbings, more drug activity, more crime, home invasions, etc., so be careful what you "wish" for.

I have lived in NH for 26 years. I was a child in the country west of Albany, NY until I went to 'Nam in the Navy (same outfit as Sen. Kerry). Then I got married and moved to New England and eventually NH. I may have been a Yorker but I consider myself a Yankee.
