I was born in Worcester, Mass., then lived up until my early teen years in Harwich, on the Cape. My family moved to Ft. Laud., I met my husband, we moved to Miami when he got his first teaching job, and we have lived here ever since.
We will be moving to New England next summer, God and the real estate market willing. My daughter and her husband and their baby live in western Mass. We will probably move there first to help them out, as their baby has major and multiple medical issues and our daughter has two years left to finish on a doctoral program. Our son and his family (they live close to us in Miami) want to move to New Hampshire next summer, and kind of hold down the fort until the rest of all of us can move there. They are doing that solely to be within a close proximity to the rest of us. Within a couple of years, we will all be living in New Hampshire, right now it looks like the Keene area is our choice. Family is super important to all of us. Our two granddaughters are paramount in our lives, as well as our children.
I did try going on the City-Data Massachusetts site, since it looks like my husband and I will be starting there before moving to NH in a couple of years, but I didn't get the same feel from that site as I do from here. There was a brashness that was not what I was looking for. So I really appreciate the different vibe that the NH forum offers. Even though I don't post often, I do read lots of the posts, and appreciate the different personalities and kindness that is constantly shown.
Sorry this is so long, but I don't know how to write short, and the older you get, the longer your story is.
Nancie
Nancie - How great that your family is going to be close by/moving with you! I wish I could talk my family into moving to NH!

I hope your daughter's little one will be okay.....one of my granddaughters was a preemie and spent quite a bit of time in the NICU. Thankfully, she's doing great now.

I am here cuz I am the "Mod"..lol.

I live in So Cali and am hoping to relocate. The family originally wanted to move to VT, so I researched the state like crazy and really fell in love with pretty much anywhere from Bennington to Manchester. Then I happen to met someone where I live who was from NH. Nashua actaully. He told me about NH, and how it might be a better fit for us than VT. So I began looking into NH. Keene, mostly. However after looking into other towns too, I see there are so many wonderful places to live in NH, all we can do is visit, visit and visit more, till we find the right place. DH is sold on Portsmouth already. We are going to be staying there during our visit in Oct. We cant wait. So we will see where the road of life takes us.

I really have fallen for the people of NH, atleast the ones on this forum. Everyone has been so wonderful to me, and helpful. Like I have said many times, I cant wait to call you neighbors!!

I'm currently living on Cape Cod and plan on moving to NH, hopefully next year. My wife and I fell in love with NH years ago but never pushed ourselves to move. Recent events have made us rethink the move and we are excited for a new life in the mountains. We aren't looking to move too far out, but just being close to the hills is fine with us. Our destination is looking to be Goffstown for a number of reasons. It just fits with our wants and needs.

This forum, over the last two years, has proved to be an amazing source for all things NH. People's honesty and candor are two main reasons why I still post here. Over much of that time, coupled with at least a dozen trips, I myself have gained a nice working knowledge of the place!!

I will always be appreciative of all the people here and I cannot wait to be their neighbor.

Although *I know* The Cape isn't what I remember 20-35 years ago -- and can totally appreciate why you want to move -- I have such fond memories of summer vacations there (every year, last 2 weeks of August, same house -- with several of my dad's college pals and their families). I have a hard time being honest with myself and acknowledging that "my" Cape Cod is gone!

I placate myself with occasional vacations there in the early Fall when all the crowds are gone and its as beautiful as it used to be (though I have to go more to the lower cape to find that now).

We are spending a week in Brewster in September - a little house right on the beach...I can't wait!

Brewster is still lovely! Are you going to Brewster Park? Last June, it was pretty much the same as I remember it (ok: they changed the rules and my cousins' house only has 1 original wall remaining, the rest has been changed ) but the neighborhood, the beach... all the same.

How about everyone chiming in - if you're interested in relocating, how about mentioning which area of the state you're thinking of?

I'm here because I live here..... I don't remember how I found the forum, but when we first moved I had tons of questions about the state and the people here were gracious enough to be EXTREMELY patient and answer my questions....I'm now addicted to the forum!

Anybody else what to chime in? Please?

Here because I live here. Matter of fact, Monday will be second anniversary. Haven't posted here much because I've been super-busy with work and other stuff (working on Sununu and John Stephen campaigns).

The only warning I would give you about Portsmouth is that while the schools are good, some other towns on the Seacoast are much better, and that real estate prices, while declining, are still a bit high for what you get.

I don't have kids, but from what I understand, Exeter is the best school system in the area by far.

Newmarket and Dover are good--Dover also has a couple of really good private schools if that's your thing.
