Yes it would be included in your bill along with trash pick-up & plowing. There's a lot of great situations like this just north of Manchester. You will really be able to do very well up here if you reasearch things & take your time.

Yeah, I would like to see some more land at around at least 1.5 acres and if these subdivisions have homeowners association fees then I rather just have an older home. But they look nice and I like the floorplans and the prices are very inexpensive. I am not too keen on the stamping out of subdivisions though simply cause that is all there is here in CA. I am kind of looking for a home with more land and space with lots of forest trees all around me so I can't see my neighbors at least on 3 sides if you know what I mean. But this website is pretty awesome.

jja, one of the best things about the NNEREN website is that all property addresses are provided, so you can map where you want to be, see if there is an airport or garbage dump that is NOT mentioned in the wonderful descriptions of the listings Also, since it's the MLS database, updates and additions are immediate, unlike some of the 3rd party sites. Even the Listing Carts (which are a HUGE improvement over the previous system) leave much to be desired because you can't go in and do your own searches--you have to wait and see what the system or your agent puts into the cart, and trust me, sometimes listings that *should* match don't make it into the cart... So searching on your own is being prudent and and an informed "shopper"...

I hear you There's a lot of stuff at that site that will fit what you are looking for. Check out the town of Bow for some nice homes. Bow is right next to Concord. Bow has the same kind of demographic profile you are looking for like Bedford except it's near Concord instead of Manchester.

Want to second the last pp on checking out Bow. We looked at a few homes there and almost bought one. It had private septic, but shared water, so the quality was controlled by the city. It also had natural gas, a major perk in my book. Ultimately though, it was a much longer commute to Dh's work than we wanted.

I encourage you to look at older neighborhoods. When we were looking at homes, we found that in the newer developments, they had cleared away almost all of the trees, so that even if you were standing on an acre+ of land, you could see all of your neighbors' houses. Each house stood on it's own little hill, so to speak. The houses were billed as contemporary colonial. Picture if you will all the Mcmansions built in SoCal in the late 90s, with the arch window over the door. These houses were just like that on the inside, with siding instead of stucco on the outside. And the quality of the construction was just so-so. Not really for us.

I like Bow and you're fine if the wind blows in an easterly direction. Merrimack Station, PSNH's largest coal burning plant is located in Bow on the Merrimack River.

Unfortunately, the little village of Suncook bears the brunt of the pollution the majority of the time. Merrimack Station was originally scheduled to be built in Suncook, but the residents voted it down because of the pollution factor. Little did they know that the result would be building the plant across the river.. . They lost on the tax revenues but got everything else.

They would have been much better off letting them build it on their side of the river.

The city of Concord New Hampshire does not bill you for water/sewer in your property taxes. You get separate bills for those services each month.

This is an interesting thread. I'm from NH, having lived in Portsmouth, Rye, Dover, Exeter, Nashua, and Concord (as well as various points in Maine). My wife and I moved to Georgia eight years ago to escape the winters, but now with three kids we realize there's no place like NH and are back house-hunting. The property taxes have really skyrocketed, and that's a major factor in our hunt. It's sobering to realize that even if we were to score a great deal in this market on, say, a $600K house for $400, we would still be paying property taxes on the assessed $600K. The prospect of paying $1000/month toward property taxes simply rules out those kinds of deals for us. I'm with jja100 that there's something inherently unjust about property taxes, being continually charged for something you worked for and own ... but OK, with all things considered we're still looking to buy in NH.

Here are a couple of things helping us in our search:

* The NNEREN website others have alluded to. Also, Trulia.com, Zillow.com, and this forum. I have a membership with RealtyTrac, but it hasn't proven to useful yet. We have a great buyer's broker so he already provides us with a lot of that information (Days on Market, etc.)

* Plug the address into maps.google.com to get aerial as well as street views. Also, if you're interested in a town, google for the town's city hall and get a street view of that as well. We had to take Epping off the list after driving through the town center -- we could have saved some time had we checked that on StreetView first.
