The smaller the town government the lower the property taxes. You can argue commercial tax base this and residential tax base that. The simple fact of the matter is people vote and they get the government they vote for. If you don't like high property taxes vote for people who don't spend your money.

NH taxes are nuthin...
I paid $10K+ in northern Bergen county NJ for a 50 foot X 150 foot lot and home.

Now, at $2250 in Madison, it's a breeze

My parents thought about retiring up that way, but are concerned it would be a bit too rural.

depands on where U R....

I'm at the very end of the Eidelweiss development, actually not even part of eidelweiss. I'm in the Pea porridge Development from the 1960's. There are folks that have houses close, and there's folks like myself that have their nearest neighbor at 275 yards away. I'm very close to the Big Porridge pond too.

Ther's a bit of everything in Madison, except congestion...
