Yeah, the first time I waited cause I had free time that day and I wanted to see how long it would take if I had to do it again. The second, third, and fourth time I tried comming back at different times with no avail. The fourth time was when I just gave my 20 cans to some guy that was there. Now I just put them in my blue recycle barrel and get screwed everytime I buy beer, cans, or anything that is plastic.
By the way... the crv tax isn't cheap... it is about 60 cents per 12 pack that you never get back. And what is worse is that they practically false advertise buy saying "Pepsi!! Only 5 bucks for 2 twelve packs!!" Then you get the store and look at your receipt and it was $6.20. Now I don't buy a lot of soda and beer but when you add up the fees for every plastic thing you buy at the end of the year and you would be surprised that it is about $100 which I look at as an electric bill for a month.

Again this is one of the many hidden taxes that CA has. Does NH have this CRV?? Or do you just pay $5 for the 24 pack and get a discount IF you decide to recycle?

ME, CT and NY has a "returnable deposit" of 5 cents or more (maybe VT too). NH has NONE of this, you don't get a discount for something that doesn't exist - you just pay the 2.99 a 6-pack of soda (or so LOL) and get your penny back and donate it to the penny jar!
Oh and recycling is mostly voluntary - and you don't get money for recycling, unless you bring it to some of the sporadic redemption centers or cross the border with the cans that say "deposit for returned" and get the money from ME

You beat me to that answer NH3NC but wanted to add that some towns in NH (Londonderry being one of them) have trash pick-up as part of the taxpayer benefit. They also encourage recycling, but it isn't mandatory. One thing that I question is (and maybe Bryfry has some knowledge on this one) if recycling items are co-mingled (glass/cans/plastic) are they *really* getting recycled or are they all going to the same place, and they're just using 2 trucks to make us believe that we're really doing anything? I've been recycling since way before it became the trendy thing to do (back when I lived in MA, and recycling was 2x a month, and the lines were LONG) Not mandatory, but I made the effort mainly to teach the kids how easy it could be to recycle if we had a system

I did have trash pickup a few years ago but the price went from $50/quarter to over $75 in the space of a few years, so I just bring it to the transfer station. I can find something else to do with the $300+ per year.
Every other week I bring the recycling. Amherst has bins for bottles, cans, glass, mixed paper, newsprint, and cardboard. There is a book shed and a "still good" shed where I have gotten rid of a lot of little kids stuff as my kids have gotten older and I have found a few good items as well. I got a couple of very nice bikes which I tuned up for my nephews and once got a pretty good foosball table I have in the basement....

we pay the 5 cent deposit per bottle, but we save the bottles and bring them to Maine to cash in - One full plastic garbage bag = approximately $12.00
there is a redemption center just over the Maine border. It's a nice ride if you like to go to the coast and I usually bring 3 bags, so even with the cost of gas, I'm still bringing home roughly $20. That'll buy dinner....

as far as recycling goes - it is NOT mandatory YET
there are towns that are considering enforcing fines if you don't recycle
other states have already started fining citizens
City fines those who refuse to recycle - Environment - MSNBC.com

One of the things I do like about living in Manch is the trash service. No extra fee for any of it (except monitors, etc)....all included in our taxes. They pick up recycling too...and give you a free container for that. They also pick up brush and yard waste, xmas trees, and will, by appointment, come get couches, etc ..............very nice!!!!
