Default Reasons why not to move to New Hampshire!

This list has no preferrenital ranking.

1. There is no culture here (Love theatre, love music, different experiences, nope)
2. There is no diversity (You are moving to the whitest state in America, no different cultures, no different people to mingle with(we'll delve into that more later)
3. LOTS AND LOTS OF SNOW AND LOTS AND LOTS OF TALK ABOUT IT
4. Its BORRRRINGGGGG unless you're old. Do You love trees, do you love to be surrounded by thousands of trees with no outlet for fun or livliness. Where going to keene(the third biggest city in NH(20,000 people) is a scary, fun and exicting adventure. You can go to a torn-down movie theatre or walk around downtown(half a mile of shotty bulidings)
4.5-Education(NH's Schools are among the worst in the country(i.e. Conant High school Serving the local population of 10,000 has serveral times faced losing it's accredation(which is death in education terms) and is overall a very poor school. Also the college system is mediorce, if you're looking to suceed in life and not coast by, then Our colleges aren't the choice for you.(Exception, dartmouth)
5. The people, The people. Do you live misolgy? Do you live misantorhpic, sardnoic, uptight;quiet and boring people. Who are very mistrustful and negative? If you like having fun, are free-spirited or outgoing then this is not the place for you.
6. NO ECONOMY (the economy here is terrible, because it's so small and there are no real citys or centers of commerce. It's very hard to find a proffisonal job, or if you're not, a decent paying prole job. And there is very little room for opportunity, so whatever your occupation is, be prepared stay perpetually or ascend the ranks every 10/20 years. If that is, you happen to get the job in the first place or better yet find it!!
7. It's ugly! New england has a certian winter charm(although ephmeral, it lasts about a week) however beyond the pretty snowy glitz of the winter and the iridescent descent of fall(which lasts about a month) The majority of NH is very very ugly and run-down. If you have lived in NH/NE you're entire life or the majority of it, you'll never notice. But once you've been to the south,(which actually is much nicer despite perspective), flordia, maryland, NY, cali, you'll realize how crappy, shotty and run-down the bulidings/overall beauty of New England is.
8. Lack of excitment creates many problems; one there is a massive drug problem in NH(so much so that NH/vermont have the highest drug usage rates in the country and so much so that one of the least populated states in the country has a DEA Drug Task Office(bust DD,DU,etc) soley NH..(many states dont have one at all! or have regional offices)
Also the people are very boring and most conversation is small talk, not with strangers but with you're friends and everyone you know. (weather, exciting devoplments(it's going to snow monday,it's christmas tommorrow, jimmy got a new job at mcdonalds)

Reasons to move to NH:
1. You're old
2. You like solitude
3. You are uptight
4. You like the scenery(NH is a pretty state)
5. You're of determinant intelligence (Due to the resitance to change, invasive egos and overall economy(I guess bad economy attracts stupid people) The people of my state tend to be unintelligent compared to the rest of the USA(New York, boston,Flordia, et cetra et cetra)

And please people of NH focus on all the issues I posed, not just the last one!

1. There is no culture here (Love theatre, love music, different experiences, nope)

That is what I am looking for in a place to move to. The culture you are referring to really isn't your culture as an American but many cultures derived from Europe and many other places. Which can be easily obtained with an hour or less drive to Boston from southern NH.

2. There is no diversity (You are moving to the whitest state in America, no different cultures, no different people to mingle with(we'll delve into that more later)

That is the whole reason why I picked New Hampshire to move to. I am from CA and I am getting tired of seeing 8 Mexicans crammed into a 1985 toyota pickup. Or some black bum on Sunset Blvd sleeping on the sidewalk.

3. LOTS AND LOTS OF SNOW AND LOTS AND LOTS OF TALK ABOUT IT

When you live in the sunshine state of CA, after about the 20th year you get tired of 360 days per year of sunshine and no change of season. I was born in Connecticut, I know what it is like and I want to move back to that... except without the taxes and higher home prices.

Boring? I work 50 hour weeks so I can make 100k per year to live in CA and pay more than half my salary back in taxes with no quality of life. How old are you?? Are you 18 living with your mom and dad? Wait until you start working and paying taxes. I want to get out of the rat race... You wanna know what people talk about in CA? "Hello neighbor, are you going to get that new Mercedes Benz S-class?" "Nah, I decided to splurge and get the Bentley Continental GT instead"

Are you kidding?? California, the so called progressive and diverse state has a ranking of 47/50. New Hampshire is ranked 12/50!! The only states worse than us are Nevada, Arizona, and Mississippi! Here is the link:

Smartest State 2006-2007

5. The people, The people. Do you live misolgy? Do you live misantorhpic, sardnoic, uptight;quiet and boring people. Who are very mistrustful and negative? If you like having fun, are free-spirited or outgoing then this is not the place for you.

I hate the people here. Neighbors never wave to each other because they do not want to be asked for any favors and because they are so stressed and pissed about their job or family. I am an introvert... I like to read, study, fix up my house etc. But I do like doing outdoor snow activities with my girlfriend like skiing, cross country skiing, hunting. Have to drive all the way to Mammoth for that.

I own a small business brokerage. I can work in Alaska and make the same money. Besides... California is no longer the worlds fifth biggest economy, jobs are leaving and moving to Texas because nobody wants to pay these astronomical taxes. Worse yet, since we have a higher corporate tax rate than Europe, many jobs are leaving the country all-together! And trust me... it is going to get much worse with illegal immigration causing a large population increase and draining of our resources through social program collection.

Florida = humidity and hurricanes galore, no thx. Visiting is nice but living there is hell. Lived in Westchester county NY and Bridgeport CT... that is the armpit of New England/Tri-state area. I live in California... the weather is nice only if you are on the coast... the rest of the state is desert BTW and our summer months get irritably hot, no thanks... I can take cold over heat any day of the year. I start sweating just from eating dinner!!! And I am thin... 6'1" 170 lbs. From what I have seen of NH, it is quite picturesque and I would most likely plan to live in Amherst, Exeter, Bedford, or Goffstown. The homes in CA are built so close together you can see through the windows of your next door neighbor and identify what they are eating.

Drug problem... last I checked, pretty much all crime was low in NH. When I was working for a brokerage before I went out on my own, people would walk into work high on marajuana and sometimes other drugs. The CA mentality is if he/she can sit down and still function reasonably, management will look the other way.

Check out this link comparing NH to CA:

Comparison of New Hampshire vs California

Reasons to move to NH:
1. You're old

I am 35 and I have enough money to retire. I guess you can put me in that category. I assume you equate old with financially stable.

2. You like solitude

I enjoy solitude a lot

3. You are uptight

You can say that I get easily annoyed but that can be attributed to my occupation.

4. You like the scenery(NH is a pretty state)

I would like to see anything but my next door neighbor's house.

5. You're of determinant intelligence (Due to the resitance to change, invasive egos and overall economy(I guess bad economy attracts stupid people) The people of my state tend to be unintelligent compared to the rest of the USA(New York, boston,Flordia, et cetra et cetra)

Yes, I do not like change... especially when it is too fast. I am an extreme conservative who grew up in the most liberal states of America. I change my ways when they no longer work, not just to try something new. The statistics of your state show that the intelligence of New Hampshirites are 35 state rankings above CA. And just because people do not embrace change or are not as accepting of others, it has no bearing on their intelligence.

By all means... if you love CA so much I welcome you to buy my 800k home with 1956 square feet on 1/3 of an acre 30 min from Malibu. Or maybe your parents can buy it for you

I am from NJ. I can't wait to get out of this over run, over priced state. Sure the pay here is great, but you can never retire here. People on a fixed income, as I will be when I retire struggle unless your rich, and I am not. Comfortable, but not rich. NH and Vermont are my two favorite states. I plan to live in one of them within 5 years. They are both beautiful and have a lot to offer as far as peace and serenity goes. Hopefully we can find work there in our respective fields. Why anyone post that here? I am looking to move here someday, I don't like reading closed minded negative statements.

That's what I was thinking too. Granted, when I was younger - just out of high school - I had some of these same thoughts - thinking that any place had to be better than NH.

With the changing of the seasons NH is beautiful any time of the year, I just landed the best job ever and I find a lot of people of high intelligence to talk to. Either the OP needs to get out more ... or just get out. Did I say that? I'm typically more compassionate than that; but what I really meant to say was that any time a person is as unhappy living where they live (as the OP indicated) then they need to move on. Life is too short to be that unhappy.

We're all entitled to our opinions. I respectfully disagree with every one of your points, masonn, and don't even feel the need to respond, other than to say that your arguments might seem less ridiculous (but not much) if you were at least able to spell.

Mason: fly! be Free!! Go somewhere ELSE! If you are over 18, no one is forcing you to stay. If you are not currently in NH (but I think you are), then don't move there. Pretty simple, even someone with an inferior education should be able to figure this out.

You must know Tara!! (a little inside joke with some of us regulars who have been on here for a while)

Honestly, flame posts don't work too well here. This is a pretty smart group of people and, yes, we will make you look foolish. But then again, I must be "of determinant intelligence" for wanting to move to NH. My goodness!! What am I doing to myself! I might end up moving next to you! I'll take "determinant" (improper use of the word, BTW) over apathy and bitterness any day.

Although jja100 did a great job of breaking down your points, many of us could do the same with our own experiences in our present locations. Did you really think that you were going to get any love here? I'm glad you got it off your chest, but I'm afraid bitterness is a deep root. There is a lot of healing for you to embark on and I hope you get it. First thing you need to do is leave your parents house, get a job and see what the real world is up to. Try living in another state, alone, hundreds of miles from anyone you know, without email, cell phones and internet. That will bring things into perspective for you.

Arrivederci, il mio amico!! (goodbye, my friend) Good luck in your search for Shangri-la!!
