Tell me about Barrington
We are renting on the seacoast now....and are looking to buy a new home. There are a few new subdivisions in Barrington with decent priced homes being built. One in particular seems pretty nice...decent size lots(2 acres)- giving us some privacy and space between homes.
What's good(or bad) about Barrington? I've been to Calef's....but what else is there?
Thanks!

Barrington is a quaint town with some business starting up - they do have restaurants and a movie theatre. Most people go to Lee (15 minutes away), Dover (10-15 minutes away) or Rochester (20 minutes away) for anything not in the town. I think Barrington is a gem in the Seacoast. IMO, I'd go for it, with the expectations of working and "bigger shopping" in other towns.

I have a couple of friends who live in Barrington, they've been there for about 4 years now I think. They're very happy there. I believe they said they go to Portsmouth for some of their shopping (like the closest fabric store for sewing needs).

Another of Barrington's "good things" is Dante's! If you like Italian, you'll love Dante's It's on Rte 125, and in addition to their menu offerings, they have some incredible specials. Try them for a special night or lunch out

Thanks for the replies! I have yet to hear anything bad a bout the town yet...so it looks like we may go ahead with a move.
I have heard good things about Dante's from other people as well. We will have to try it out.
After being in the Portsmouth/Rye/Hampton area for a few years, the peacefulness of Barrington would be nice! We love the area, but the traffic and number of people can get a bit hectic at times.
Thanks again!

Since 1993, the EPA has completed 8 Superfund toxic waste cleanups in New Hampshire. These sites are located in Greenland, Barrington, Conway, Epping, Raymond, Peterborough, and Londonderry .

I think there is a new sub-division going in at the end of tibbetts rd, I forget the name of the new road or the subdivision though...we looked at it, but it is not one of the ones we are interested in... the lots are too small for us.
Thanks

it's possible the sites are entirely clean now, but prospective land buyers should be aware of what was there previously - sometimes it takes decades for problems to show in the population.
Unfortunately, the Bush administration recently cut the superfund program's environmental funding by a disastrous 50% and has shown major hostility to the program. The actual clean-up fund is virtually empty.
