Default Magazines/Newspapers

Hi All,

We are going to subscribe to at least one magazine or newspaper while we are waiting for the time to pass until our relocation in June.

We read the Nashua Telegraph online and have WMUR Channel 9 as our homepage for some information about local happenings. Are there other media sources we should be in touch with right now? We love sports and also have three children. What do you recommend?

We really looking forward to our first pancake with maple syrup breakfast as residents and not just tourist.

Thanks

Manchester Union Leader is a large paper covering most of the state. It is available online.

For the Seacoast, there is Fosters Daily Democrat and Portsmouth Herald. For up North, at the Fosters site (on the tabs at the top), there is the Citizen with all the more "Conway" area information. I believe Keene has one too but I'm not familiar with that. Oh and I believe the Concord Monitor too still exists

Magazines are like Yankee, New Hampshire, and maybe some others I can't think of at the moment.

WMUR is the largest TV station I believe. WUNH - public television channel 11 is another option out of Durham. I know my other "local stations' were out of Portland ME, and Boston MA - when I lived on the coast.

Hope this helps some.

What area of the state do you planning on moving to? Is it the Nashua area?

The only NH magazines I am aware of are:

100 Fairs & Festivals - New Hampshire ToDo Magazine!

New Hampshire Magazine

These are magazines that tell about a lot of places to visit, they have interesting tidbits etc. about NH. They might be good as they will give you plenty of ideas for places you will want to check out when you are here.

As far as newspapers- the state paper is The Union Leader. It covers the state fairly well. It also covers politics-if that is something that interests you-especially with it being an election year. If not then the local paper of what ever area you are moving to.

Good Luck

Nicolem

Up here in Littleton, the Caledonian Record covers some of the news from here and is online for free. The local paper, you need to pay to get online or in print.

Other than WMUR, WPTZ covers our area and the Upper Valley region as well as VT and parts of NY.

We plan to be in Southern New Hampshire, as far east as Londonderry and as far north and west as Mont Vernon.

Thanks for your input.

Mont Vernon and Wilton are right on the edge of the Monadnock region - which gets coverage by the Monadnock Ledger Monadnock Ledger-Transcript : Serving the Heart of the Monadnock Region some of which you can just browse online, but you can subscribe to more of it.

I would add the Union Leader on-line and stop there. You already have a good start with the Telegraph and Chan. 9. Depending on your political slant, you could always add the Concord Monitor.

Like Mom said, NH Mag and Yankee are good ones. I read Yankee myself, although I miss the old format. Still a good mag for seeing what's happening in NE. See if some of the local chambers of commerce have a newsletter. That might help too.

While you might find out about all the fun stuff going on in New Hampshire by reading the magazines (New Hampshire, Yankee, etc) keep in mind that they are in the business of selling subscriptions and writing mainly positive "human interest" articles, while the newspapers (even the online versions) will give you more of an idea of what is going on day-to-day, week-to-week, a more accurate depiction of life in New Hampshire.

You could add Home - DerryNews.com, Derry, New Hampshire

Oh, and here's a great list of NH newspapers and magazines that cover the state:

Enjoy the "research"

www.nh.com is good for knowing what is going on in the state. Check the events section.

Mont Vernon is a nice town; I have friends there. The Milford Cabinet covers the area: Cabinet.com | The CABINET PRESS INC | Covering Milford, Wilton, Amherst, Lyndeborough, Greenville, Mont Vernon, Jaffrey, Mason, Hollis, Brookline, Merrimack and Bedford, NH.
