My friends who are waiting for green cards have been waiting a while, so if you're serious about moving you might want to get started asap. But it's even worse immigrating to the UK - my dh was considering moving to London for a job at one point and when I looked into getting a visa to work, I was told there was no way it was going to happen.

Thanks for the link.

Every school district is different. The schools is one town might be fantastic and the schools in the town next door might not be. Whether you're talking about education, crime, or anything else, it's hard to make generalizations about an entire state - any state, not just New Hampshire.
In terms of colleges, you have Dartmouth College in Hanover which is a world-renowned school, the University of New Hampshire in Durham which is more centrally located and certainly easier to get into, and a number of smaller community colleges.

There are a lot of colleges all over NH! I don't know if this is true or not, but I had heard that colleges in UK are free? that is, if you meet the qualifications, continuing on and getting into whichever university or college is just part of the public schools (I think there is a difference in the concept of 'public school'??) and therefore it's free as part of the taxes. Not in the US. You have to pay the tuition to go to whichever college/university you're looking at. grade schools are free: grades 1-12, but anything after that is optional. You can often apply for scholarship (some are 'student loans' that you have to pay back, and some are free scholarships for varying amounts of funds that you don't have to pay back - but you have to qualify and the funding organization has to award it to you). Oh, there are also 'private schools' for grades 1-12, those if you choose to go or send your kids there, you have to pay the tuition for them because they are not govt funded. These aspects of schools and universities are common all over the US.

Colleges are not free here in the UK as you have to pay for the couses you want to do, but there are the odd colleges that are joined with schools that are free that go upto year 13.
