Is your decision driven by a commute? In NH, it is easy to go north-south but not east-west. If you are in the Nashua/Manchester corridor, consider Bedford (new High School), Amherst, and Hollis. Want more space - look at Mont Vernon. Maybe New Boston.
$11k may sound high but I have friends in MA that pay that much. Their rate is lower but their valuation is much higher than similar houses in similar towns in NH. Many of my friends in MA send their kids to private school at $8k - $15k per year.... No income tax in NH. No sales tax in NH. Car insurance is much lower....

I'm with Ken - Dover is a beautiful community, definitely put it on your list of cities to look at. It is central to many areas. I am NOT saying that Bedford or Londonderry isn't beautiful - because they are - but I was raised in Dover and LOVE it.

niv4lac is on a distinguished road
I am from central new hampshire, and i dont really like living in such a secluded area. I much prefer the big city. Boston, new york, philly, etc. I dont at all recommend machester, i have heard that the public school system is horrible, and it is a very dirty nasty place.

I recommend Nashua because the school system is great, there are lots of parks and plenty of things to do, especially in south nashua.

i also recommedn concord, if you are willing to go a bit farther north, although nashua is basically the same with a bit more to do

I'm with Ken and Mom--Dover's a great town. The Children's Museum that was in Portsmouth has recently moved there, and that's just one more family-related option for the town. By NJ/NY tax standards, it's not bad, and it still gives you the connection to the ocean that you've probably come to expect.

Hey, I don't mean to hijack this thread - but when did the children's museum move? Why did it move? I realize it was pretty crowded before and didn't have a lot of parking, but it was such a great space.

Sorry, I am out of the loop! Thanks!

The Children's Museum was scheduled to move over the summer. I haven't been there yet, but I'll check to see if I can get updated information.

The move was completed for the Children's Museum. It's no longer in Portsmouth but downtown in Dover--Washington Street. Enjoy!
