Apples! Val was right!
Val, as usual you ROCK! I saw honeycrisp apples at my local farm and bought them -- I recalled you raving about them on a thread recently. They are by far the best apples I have ever tasted! My family loves them and they are our new favorite! I'd never seen them before. Thanks for the great tip.
Where is everyone's favorite place to pick apples and what are you favorite varieties for eating and cooking/baking?
- Jackie

That's too funny, Wanna -- I like Macs *because* they are fairly small -- not like some varieties that are so big they are like 3 servings of apples in 1!

Apples Apples Apples!
I'm glad you tried the Honey Crisps NDQ! They are the very best IMO-firm, sweet and smaller size I use them strictly for an "eating" apple because they're only out for a few weeks, once they're gone, they're gone...
Everyone I know loves Macs, but they don't do anything for me, maybe because they're such a soft apple. They do make great applesauce though! Cortlands are the best for baking IMO, and I usually get a bushel of drops for apple crisp, pies, etc. and mix 50/50 with Granny Smiths
Now I am inspired, and need to get to the orchard TODAY to get some Honey Crisps and some pictures
Thank you NDQ for taking the time to post about the apples, and for the kudos.

Andy Mack is a friend of mine and I prefer to pick apples at his place. Mack's Apples, aka Moose Hill Orchards inc, Rt 128 Mammoth Road, Londonderry NH 03053. They will ship anywhere UPS can go. They also sell Henry Peterson's really good Maple Syrup.

FWIW, the honey crisps are located on the Adams Road orchard (of Mack's, of course!)
Greg W and anyone else, be sure to stop by on October 5 for some yummy baked goods from the Derry Garden Club! Mack's allows various organizations to hold fund raisers just outside the store on Mammoth Road This is one of my favorite fund raisers because the Garden Club members are GREAT cooks! Pumpkin Whoopie Pies are a definite hit!

Whoopie Pies! Another thing I LOVE about New England. I had almost forgotten about them because you just can't get good home made WPs outside NE. Pumpkin ones...MMMM. I had a traditional WP at The Foothills in Warner a few weeks ago. It was as big as my head -- good thing it was shared among 8 people!

Ohhh I love honey crisp apples , but we dont get them here very often. It is mostly gala, granny smith, red delicious, fuji, Macs, and some little mini apples. Fujis are ok, but they are kind of mushy. I love apples that snap when you bite into them and are all juicy .
Val if I were going to be there longer, I would show you how to make my top secret Pumpkin Spice Whoopie Pies . When I move out there, you and I can have a "bake" day . But it has to be on a cold rainy or snowy day . I cant wait to bake on a cold day. You have no idea how disheartening it is to bake when it is hot outside....it takes something out of it, if that makes sense..lol
