Default Swimming Pools in Northern New Hampshire?

We are considering putting a swimming pool in our Northern NH property (White Mountain area) but haven't seen any up there? Does anyone put pools in, if so, what type?

My parents live way up north and have had an in-ground pool for 35+/- years. You just need to follow manufacturer's/builder's instructions on care.

You must live in Waterville Estates - assuming by your SN?! - and I know people around here (I live nearby) who have above-ground pools. Again, follow manufacturer's instructions.

Problem with swimming pools in the North Country is they are not really big enough to skate on in winter.

LOL Greg!
I grew up in NE VT, not far from the NH border and we had an in-ground. It was great.....for the 3 months you could use it! They are also a lot of work, but worth it IMO, as I love to swim. We are thinking of putting one in at my current house as well.

A thought for you to think about and hopefully a good one for you

If you decide to get a poll then I would suggest putting the pool inside a sun room, much like a Florida room which is full of glass.

That way you will have more time to use it and the glass will keep it warmer naturally.

I live in the White Mountains and yes, some people have pools. My husband would dearly love to have an inground pool, but to me, I couldn't see how it would be worth it. As a previous poster mentioned, you'd only get 3 months use out of it at best. There are a lot of trees around and you'd constantly get debris in it. But, if you have your heart set on a pool, yes, it's possible and yes people around here have pools...it's just not that common.

When I was growing up - up north - a lot of our neighbors had in-ground pools. I think my parents are the only ones left that still have one. It IS a lot or work for such a short usage. My parents didn't have any trees around their pool, so keeping it clean wasn't such a big deal. They also heat it and keep it at quite a warm temp (low 80s), so that costs them quite a bit of moolah for propane.

Solar covers and roof solar heat systems can extend the usable season dramatically. The cover provides a little heating during the day, but helps a great deal in reducing heat loss at night. The new solar collector/heater systems will raise temperature very quickly with a properly designed system.

You're right rmcewan...in the case of my 'rents, they are in their 70s, though, so newfangled stuff like that just makes 'em stressed! It took them years to figure out how to use vacuum system.
