I am glad you are open minded enough to not be completely anti-gun, however I feel you have a dislike of "assault weapons". Let me give you a little background on these guns. First the term "assault weapons" was taken by the Brady Campaign to make these rifles sound more scary. The simple fact of the matter is any rifle that was used by the military is to them considered an "assault rifle".

We have this organization in the United States called "The Civilian Marksmanship Program" CMP for short. www.odcmp.org This program is for local and national rifle and pistol competitions through out our country. There is a service rifle category and and a service pistol category. The service rifles used (AR15 and the M14) are considered by politicians and the Brady Bunch as "Assault Weapons".

Since 1890 our country has recognized it's top rifle and pistol shooters by awarding them the "Distinguished Rifleman" or "Distinguished Pistol Shot" badge when they have won enough local and national competitions. In the last 118 years there have only been a little over 1800 civilians that have earned the title of "Distinguished Rifleman". I am #1745. Shooting with Military rifles for sport and hunting has been apart of our country's history and heritage since we sent the British yellow backs packing. I will be damned if I am going to allow any punk murder or punk politician to ban these so called "Assault Weapons" again so that my boys can't enjoy the freedom that I and thousands of others have provided.

You're right I will oppose any gun control, it's a constitutionally protected right which I have taken the oath to protect many years ago, and I will die doing so if need be.

And for the record I can do a lot more damage out to 1000 meters with Daddy's deer hunting rifle than any AK47, so no Assault weapons are NOT the issue, the media and the Politicans want them to be.
Thanks.

Nah, I'm not anti-assault rifle. People collect them and military enthusiasts think they are super cool and like to take them to the range and see what it's like to fire them. I'm just sick of this being such a huge political dividing issue because I really don't think it has to be. It's just sad for me to see so many people vote against candidates that would benefit them in every other way just over this one issue. I'd love to see people be able to resolve it in a way that everyone could feel okay about.

And everything is Bush's fault... You actually had me thinking for a minute there that you were open minded.
I am open minded...I am also a single mom who relies on some social services while I get a degree so I can make a better life for myself and my family. You could say that we are one of the "vulnerable" populations. Since my ex husband refuses to pay child support we have really struggled financially over the years.

Why do you think Obama hates America? I don't hate either of the candidates, by the way. Heck, I don't even hate Bush. I'm mad as heck at him for his insane spending and some of his policies, but I don't hate him. I really liked his father. I liked the economy under Clinton but I don't like him because I think he is shifty. Am I ga ga over Obama...nope. I just believe that he will do a better job protecting the low income families like my kids and I. That's really all it boils down to.

If you live in NH, MA and many other states they will take the child support from his employer.

I could spend a long time detailing the reasons Obama is anti American. I am not going to try to convince you who to vote for. Just know this, Obama isn't the savior he claims to be. He is all for big government, which means higher taxes. Maybe not to you or me, we will get that whopping $150 back, but he will hammer the upper incomes and businesses who create jobs and keep our economy growing. We already have a hard time keeping companies from moving operations overseas, Obama's tax plan will make that decision simple, they will move production overseas to avoid the increase of taxes.

We can't forget his Socialized health care plan. Who do you think is going to pay for that? He can't wait to get in there and spend, spend, spend...

I don't like McCain a whole lot, he's more left than he is right, but at least John has the concept of how the economy is run. Obama has experience as a Community Organizer raising money for his friends private "education" programs. And his political coming out party was hosted at the house of a domestic terrorist and he has the balls to say that Bill is just an acquaintance.

Nah, I don't trust Obama. Our choices are crap and crappier, I'm voting for crap this time around.

I live in Maine. I used to live in Vermont before here. Even though McCain says those big companies with the most income will create jobs I don't buy it. Look at all the corruption and greed with these big companies raking in record profits, spending half a million of OUR bail out money to take a dozen executives on a cushy spa vacation. It's ridiculous. The largest US export in the last few years has been jobs by those very companies McCain thinks should get even more tax breaks. I say tax the crap right out of them and only offer them tax breaks if they keep all their jobs right here in the good old US of A. That would go a long way in helping the economy. Obama did say he would give tax breaks to the businesses that actually create jobs here in the US. Don't you find it sickening that big oil companies are making record profits while it costs over $100 to fill your gas tank?

Suzet one more and I'll make my point on why NH is red in a sea of blue...

Centaurmyst this is why NH IS RED. We are conservative because we dont believe everything we see on TV. We actually think for ourselves, we obtain data and make a decision based on facts and not EMOTION. The media is horribly liberal and yes is sucks that gas is expensive. However the fact of the matter is only 10% of our oil comes from private companies like Exxon. 10% Centaurmyst... You know what that means????? That means 90% comes from SOCIALIST COUNTRIES like CANADA, SAUDI ARABIA,
MEXICO, VENEZUELA, and NIGERIA. Where is the outrage for them making even BIGGER profits than the 10% of private companies???? Where is the outrage that we are buying oil from known America haters like Saudi Arabia and Venezeula??? No it's more politically correct to blame the few private companies while several COUNTRIES stick it to us...

That my friend is why NH is RED, we think for ourselves...

I just have to say, there are other issues that separate Red from Blue. At the moment the Republican party seems to be dominated by the religious conservatives, who are adamantly pro-life, want to overturn Roe vs. Wade, some who want to define marriage in specific terms in the constitution, some who want only sex ed programs that teach abstinence only. Don't you find this a little against the grain of "live free or die?"

"Live Free or Die" is a philosophy which should be applied to life while using some basic common sense. There are many people in NH like me who do not apply religion to political issues, but do apply this common sense with a serious dose of conscience. For example, there's no helmet law here, but we do not typically see careless motorcyclists on our roads.

I am not worried about Roe V Wade going back to the SCOTUS. There are some very religious conservatives, from what I have seen in NH they haven't pushed their religious agenda. Remember the school system is overrun with socialists, that isn't going to change ever. They will still push their liberal agenda. Lowering standards, not allowing kids to compete because someone might have their feelings hurt. Unions are a wonderful thing, the epitome of socialism.
