Lancaster, NH anyone?
My family and I are relocating to northern NH this summer - husband has a job and is now commuting from western ME. We are looking at:
Littleton
Franconia
Bethlehem and now Lancaster
I've been able to find quite a bit of info on Littleton (thanks Windchimes!) but any help on some of these other towns is awesome! We have a 7 year old and a 1 year old and would like to rent for a year while we get our bearings... thanks!

There isn't alot for rent in Lancaster. The town itself is a wonderful town, with a fairly New School About 5 years old. It covers K through 8. It is a good school. I have a 12 year old there and he loves it. You are literally on the VT border and are 1/2 hr drive from 2 Walmarts. There is a Super Walmart that is going to open in In April. Again that is about 1/2 hr away. We are 20 min from Littleton and all it has to offer if you take rt 135. Or you can take rt 3 and go via Whitefield and that takes about 30 min as well. St Johnsbury VT is 27 miles from here. Not much of a city, but a nice downtown. There is a nice downtown here in Lancaster too. There is a real good steak house and Several other good places to eat. Bars are only open on the weekend per say. There is a small jewish community as well. The fire dept and police department are very well staffed from what I have seen. And the plows are out at the first snow flake. As I am new to town Myself That is really all I can tell you. It don't have the traffic of littleton but it has the shopping of 2 northern NH cities within 30 min and 1 of VT's major towns about 30 to 40 min away as well. Oh there is a good hospital here in town too. I moved up here from Manchester as the southern NH was getting too Liberal with taxes and crime. And I must say It is nice to live in a town with Values and a Conservative nature on crime and spending my tax dollars. New schools , Good people and good fire, police, and road crews. all this and low taxes as well. No income sales or liberal near by. Northern NH is great. We also just got a cell tower here so we actually get signal lol.

Watch out for Bethleham there are issues going on with the school, Taxes, and Some dump that is giving the town issues as well. Littleton was having issues with a little group of ppl that where giving the town problems with the police department and town goverment but I havent heard anything about them in a while maybe they finally shut up. But before moving there check them out first. It is called the Group for common growth or something like that. But they are basically bulling the town ppl telling and sewing everyone that don't agree with a whole 5 ppl maybe. As I said I haven;'t heard them in the news latly so they might have shut up. But if they haven't as nice as Littleton is you might not want to live there till they disapear. It is a nice little town just a few idoits that will do whattevr it takes to get there way.

thanks NHyrnut! The more I look at Lancaster the more in love I fall! It seems the perfect size town for us with proximity to everything we need. I looked at greatschools.net and the elementary is rated fairly well but the regional high school rather poorly. Any insights into this? Also was looking at the chamber site - they have a nice relocation guide - and there is a rec center - Colonel Hall I think - have you and your kids been there? I will have to start contacting realtors to form relationships in case rentals come up - thanks for the pm. I've also found the paper - cooscountydemocrat.com and it has a link to classifieds... take care

When you move here you get the paper free for 1 year as a welcome to our town thing. I haven't been to the rec center yet as well it is winter and cold. lol Our oldest says he has alot of friends that go there but when we offer to take him he just goes outside to play. Kids. According to 2 neibors that have kids in the high school it is Very good. and they are happy with it. aside from that I don't know. I know they have a good web site. that's about it though.

Rental property in Jefferson
Hi - We have a log cabin in Jefferson which we have been using as a vacation rental - by the weekend or week. We are considering turning into a longer-term rental - year lease or so. Would anyone know what the rental rates are like up there - Jefferson, Lancaster - for houses? And would anyone be interested in renting it in the near future? Thanks, Laura

Hi Zeanny,
Well, we decided to wait another year here in Maine. The commute for my husband is still working. I continue to watch the rental market in the area and it's slim for a 3+ bedroom house for a family. I look at the local papers (Caledonian-Record, Littleton and Coos Cty papers) and real estate groups Century 21 Winn Assoc and NNEREN. There are far more rental options in Littleton but I've also seen many in Whitefield and Jefferson which are close to Lancaster and in the same school system. Beautiful area and a seemly happy community I look forward to joining someday! - good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

I need to know exactly who this organization is and who can inform me about their activities. I want to do a story on them. Homeland Security may also be interested in them as well. The last thing these goons want is publicity.
