Best Elementary School in or around Manchester
Dear Everyone,
My family is thinking about moving to NH this summer. Because my son is 5 years old, I am really interested in finding a school that does really well on state and national assessments, is safe, and positive in most aspects.
Please help!

Check greatschools.com and schoolmatters.com. I did some research a while ago and found Bow to have a good school system. I believe Hollis was also acceptable...These sights have test scores and also some reviews on the particular schools..Good Luck

I went to Green Acres Elementary in Manchester. My last year was '94, so it's been a while, but it was by far the best school in Manchester. I learned the same things in 5th grade that I was taught in high school. I doubt if any of the teachers, or the principal are still there, but it's worth looking into.

Oh Green Acres is the place to be. It wasn't like the TV show was it? LOL

Actually yes, sort of. There was a Green Acres farm in Manchester in the early 1900's. If you ever come across an old landfill, you'll find lots of glass bottles with the name on them. I know because I found tons of them in the field that's being dug up behind my parents house. Anyway, before the airport and the highway (I93) was built, all that land belonged to Green Acres Farm. It's now where Green Acres school is.
Here's the website for Green Acres:

I just went through it really quick and I was wrong in my original post! A lot of the same teachers are still there. The principal isn't though. Now I feel even more confident in telling you to check it out!
I remembered something else from elementary school that I had forgotten. Because Green Acres is one of the only schools around for the hard of hearing, I also became fluent in sign language by second grade!!! I shouldn't be admitting this but, I was always fascinated by the sign language teacher so I used to watch her/him interpret instead of watching the teacher.

I can't thank you enough for sharing this information with me. I checked the website already. It is great! And I looked at Green Acres' test scores. They look good!
I have heard that schools in Manchester look shabby. Is that right? I hope not, though of course I am more interested in the quality of education than the age of the building.

When I was in high school (Memorial in Manchester) the school was featured in a local news story because of the condition of the building. They actually taped and aired the dust balls drifting around in the hallways. Pretty sad considering Memorial is the best kept in Manchester.
The age of the building actually should be a concern, though not a major one. Older buildings have typical problems like heating systems giving out, or pipes bursting, or leaky roofs. Problems like this can and have caused school cancellations, major discomfort for students, and occasionally an unsanitary mess!!
If you've looked into green acres and are still interested, there is a brand new middle school (6th,7th & 8th grade) also on the property. As for high schools, they're all old.

Thank you for this information.
Are most of the schools around Manchester/ Nashua in such a bad condition? Many people say schools are good in NH. Are most schools dirty? I hope not.
