Your timing could not be better, Captjob. I consider this time of year to be the best for outdoor activity. Beautiful color, relatively warm temperatures and few bugs except those pesky yellow jackets that want to share your beverage. (If your drink of choice has been out of your site for a short time, tap the can or bottle with your finger nail. This will alert any intruders and give them time to evacuate before your next sip).

And happy to hear you and your family had the opportunity to see your first moose. They can become huge creatures and have little fear of people and their cars. In all reality, you really don't hit the moose unless your driving a semi. A collisions with moose is more like taking there legs out from under them with the rest of the 1200, or so, pound beast landing in your lap at what ever speed your traveling. The air bags probably won't be very effective either so, caution is your best defense.

Enjoy your trip and keep us posted......

So glad to hear that the family is enjoying New Hampshire! You're here at the picture perfect time. Wanna caution you--if you're still in town over the weekend, you might want to stay away from the Kanc, North Conway, etc. The whole area becomes a twisting turning parking lot complete with tour buses, etc. This is definitely leaf peeping weekend coming up! Looking forward to the pictures!!!

Well, I'm assuming we have to come up to Waterville Valley. But I hear you about the Kanc and the notch. Much as I'd love to get some pics myself... I kinda know better.

It's really beautiful in Carroll County right now. But Val is absolutely right - we tried to go to the Sandwich Fair this weekend, and it was a zoo! We finally did a u-turn out of the traffic we'd been sitting in for an hour and my kids were really disappointed. So I'd avoid any high traffic areas during the weekend. North Conway has been fine during the week, but definitely more traffic than usual.

If you head over to the Mt. Washington Observatory website, you can see a current webcam view of Mt. Washington, with the fall colors and snow-capped peak (provided it's not in the clouds, but the weather seems to be pretty clear right now).

I just hope the snow doesn't melt completely by Thursday, so I can get some good pictures.

Unfortunately, that snow has all melted. I was hoping for some great photos...

New update! Most of the north country is now at peak colour. There is high color in much of the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region and the northern Lakes Region, while most of southern NH is still at moderate color.

I'm finally home. Good to see the colors again.

I'm headed up to the mountains today, so I hope they're not quite past peak yet.

Yesterday I drove along the Connecticut River, but I found that the colors were rather weak in that area, especially in Vermont from Woodstock up to Thetford. Beautiful country, but the colors are much better further east in NH. Just a word of advice.

If anyone gets the Carroll County Independent, there is a picture of a guy skiing on Mt Washington last week. Not for the faint of heart!

Colors are amazing right now.

I thought I'd share this pic that my bf took last October - it was taken behind the Burger King in Londonderry - Wheeler Pond.
