I lived in Texas for 20 years. I was told by the illegals living in Texas that they were "taking back their land". You see they think Texas is really part of Mexico that they are taking back so since they are 'in their own country' they do not think they should learn English. I have even seen Mexican parents put down their children for even speaking English. So how can things change. It is terrible and I was glad to leave there.

yup, Dreamer, that's happening in a few places. quite openly in LA - the mayor (being hispanic himself) has publicly stated that he's in favor of it.

That one statement speaks volumes to anyone who has lived in one of the areas through the duration of the change. For those who haven't, they can't understand and think those that live in these areas aren't tolerant enough. Personally I can't imagine ever moving to another country and not wanting to learn the language prior to moving.

MtDreamer, you made a comment about "Mexican parents put down their children for even speaking English." That is so true. In fact, I was talking to a woman from Mexico about a year ago who manages a fast food restaraunt. She was going on about how her son doesn't have to do much at school because he has all the teachers convinced that he can only understand Spanish, when in reality he can understand everything they say. She thought this was great and was actually bragging on him as he forces them to go get someone to interpret everything to him.

While the story itself is sad, what's worse is that the teachers in those classrooms are losing valuable time, and it's the other children that ultimately are being cheated.

I stopped in at a grammer school in Dallas and was surprised that all the kids posters and other banners on the walls in the classes and hallways were mostly in Spanish and they wonder why these kids can't learn English. Maybe my saying all this people will think that I am prejudice but I am not. I have friends that come from other countries but they assimilate into America. Learn English. Years ago when I was in grammer school in Chicago we had a few kids that were in my class that came from a Spanish speaking country and they did not have special classes to learn English but it was just expected and the kids did learn English in just a short time. Now they are in special classes and after years they still speak really bad English because no one expects more. It is sad.

You might want to start a seperate post so you get more answers. First off......we love you guys over here. I have never run into a bad Aussie NH is a great place to live if you like the outdoors, and quiet, small towns. Many people move up here to raise their families. If you are single, and looking for the nightlife you can get some of it, but a place like Boston is where the action is. Very low taxes here.......no general sales or income taxes. If you give us more info on what you are looking for the people out here will be able to help you I'm sure

If you movehere from aussie land you will find:

a lot more people in the outback
people speak funny
it is a lot wetter
it is a lot colder
there is effectivly no government regulation or aid

Given the above NH is a good place to live.

Default New Hampshire Cooks

I am updating a list of incubator kitchens in the U.S. and I was wondering if anyone knew if New Hampshire COOKS on 7 Wall street still exist as an incubator kitchen for bakers who want to start their own baking business>

The contact over there was Nancy.

Thanks
