I second that. What's the cool Jewish holiday where you get to build a hut in your backyard out of natural materials and sleep in it? Is it Shabat (sp?) or something?
Thank you! Just went to services near Hollis, they were great.
You're thinking of Sukkot. I don't think people sleep in the hut - the tradition is to set up these temporary structures in your backyard, decorate them, and eat meals in them. The holiday is a harvest festival and commemorates ancient times when people were so busy harvesting crops that they would set up temporary shelters in the fields until harvest was over. Kind of a nice time to remember ancestors, share meals with family and friends and be grateful for our bounty (like Thanksgiving.)
Shabbat is Jewish Sabbath - the equivalent of Christian Sabbath, only on Friday night and Saturday day instead of on Sunday.
I have not heard what you are talking about, however
in the BOOK OF EXODUS, the 4th of the TEN COMMANDMENTS states
"REMEMBER THE SABBATH or SHABBAT by keeping it HOLY"
It starts on Friday evening on Sunset & runs to Sunset on Saturday.
I will try to find out what you mentioned & post it here
Take care

Thank you for the information/explanation! I wasn't shure of the name but new it started with an "S" and ended with a "T". Neat tradition!
