LOL, Manchester ain't that bad. If you guys think Manchester is bad, then you ain't seen nuttin. Try living in Harrisburg, PA. Now that is straight ghetto right there. Manchester, to me, is a breath of fresh air compared to Harrisburg. At least there are many parts of the city where there are cheap rents in decent areas.

The sad thing for all us long time NH residents is that even 12 to 15 years ago there was almost NO crime in the whole state. Get this: in 1980 there were less than 100 people in prison in the state of NH ! Think about that.

Thank Mitt Romney
With the term limits he helped pass in Massachusettes, all of the career welfare recipients moved north.
Lawrence Ma begat Salem NH.
Lowell Ma Begat Nashua NH,
Manchester is full of those that Salem and Nashua law enforcment pushed north.
Before too long welfare will be providing snowmobiles and they will be as far north as Pittsburg NH

Oh god dont even joke about that.
I think there needs to be a monstrous ditch dug filled with oil and set ablaze slightly North of "Manch Vegas" spanning the width of the state. Maybe that'll slow the influx.
You know, I wouldn't mind paying taxes nearly as much if that's what it went toward. A nice big fire moat to keep the dependents at bay.

That's where I live, wtf dude?
Why do they call it "Manch Vegas" anyway? Where are the casinos and legal prostitution?

In the 80's and 90's there was a problem with illegal slot machines in some businesses there. The news coined the term "Manch Vegas" when they would write about it.
Right now there is some awful radio commercial that has "Viva Manch Vegas" playing all the time. It's terribly annoying and I have no idea what exactly the commercial is advertising.
I stand by my monstrous fire moat comment.

Very interesting, thanks for that bit of info. Make sure you gimme a heads-up before that fire moat is constructed.

I find old, industrial cities charming. For a fairly small city-110,000, in a fairly small state-1.3 million-I find Manchester's not bad. I find it aesthetically pleasing, and interesting enough-particularly the mill yard, downtown and north-end. Manchester may not be the most exciting place, but it provides plenty of venues for couples and young families to escape to during their free time.
I would suggest visiting Manchester before moving there...

Right now, I live pretty close to you(miles from NOLA). Crime and education are strong decision points in my move. Matter of fact, in a few days I am moving to New Hampshire and I've received nothing but glowing remarks about New Hampshire. The big negative is property tax and winters so I think we need to reconsider these comments. The prior poster said it best, How does Manchester compare to Harrisburg. So how does Manchester compare to St. Louis or wherever? If we compare Manchester to the rest of the country I bet she fairs very well. Remember, with statistics there's always a loser. Manchester is probably the worst in crime, education and housing....in New Hampshire but how does she fair against other cities in the US. That's my spin. Good luck.
