I know that the area around northhampton and keene is very welcoming....Greenfield Mass comes to mind because I knew some gays and lesbians who live there .... that is a very beautiful area ... also Shelbourne Falls and Rowe Vermont seem like nice communities..... back in the 60's this area was a place where communes, artists and back to the land types moved and homesteaded...there is still a strong influence of acceptance and free thinking and tolerance and respect. Of course it is understood that there is also a vibrant an ongoing Yankee culture that has different values ...but which also values independance. That would be my choice even more than Keene...but you are looking in the right area.

JFRRACING I dont know where you live or hang out.....but I used to live in the Lakes Region and had no trouble as a gay man and I belonged to a social and support club called "The Capital Gay Men" that met in Concord...and we had members from all over the state....and we went out to eat together after the meeting and I am sure that only a few patrons in the resturant thought we were a mens bowling team.

NH had a very conservative political leaning back in the 1960's when the Gov. was a big fan of apartheid in SA and you had to take a loyalty oath to get a civil service job......those days are long over. NH has always had a libertarian underpinning and "live and let live" goes back to its colonial history. NH has a Democratic Governor, and will soon replace Senator Sununu with the former Democratic Governor, Jeanne Shaheen and I believe it has one or two Democratic Representatives.

The Republican party is holding on in the central and northern towns but NH is a Blue State. It even passed a Civil Union law and its tourist industry is happily catering and supporting gay marriages. Its good for business.

You may have your own issues with gays.....but NH doesnt.

actually you're wrong

the south part of the state has become more republican over the years.

Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections

reason is a lot of more republicans have left the liberal state of Massachusetts

as for the original topic like others have said the OP would probably be better off with VT or MA as they want to attend their homosexual parades and is more tuned to their way of thinking politically and socially

maybe even CT would be good , where it is warmer and now where judges have made a law for them

Well, i mean truth be known.. we really don't care if its a red state.. i mean we are coming from TX.. one of the reddest states in the south. At least in NH we will have rights as a couple.

I think it would be fair if we just respected this womens desire to move to NH, and not keep bringing up other states and places she could move to. She has said, more than once, she wants to move to NH.

I think what this thread is showing, is that it's still a mixed bag in NH. Some people are very welcoming, some aren't.

I don't understand why some of you are bringing up attitudes/politics/ activities that the OP never said anything about looking for.

Is NH safe? yes. It's one of the safest states in NH. Are there many hate crimes relating to gay/lesbian lifestyle? I don't think so.. again, it's one of the safest states in general. What you can do, once you know where you're going to work so you can look around for what town you want to live in, is go to the town website. Many of them have the police logs online. You can browse through them and see what it's like. Sure, some towns may be a bit more open-minded (college towns like Keene, Durham maybe Plymouth and artsy towns like Peterborough or Portsmouth).

here's the best idea
go to a place first and see it, stay there for a bit and travel, New England is a big place, it is a beautiful place which offers a lot.
youll find many states are unique or I think so anyway.
good luck

Hello skytrekker, you in TX now?

a Muslim could have 4 wives according to the religion but I am not sure when that slogan was made it referred to things like polygamy and homosexual marriage, maybe I am wrong but we dont' know from a long time ago when it was made do we

Wanna
nothing to do with me not being welcoming or anyone else for that fact, what it shows for me is that I have known many homosexuals and everyone I meet wants to change things to incorporate homosexual school education look at the king and king in MA, military policy etc

We are pointing out that there are gay friendly areas with the New England area he said he liked.
No need for anyone of us to know if she is a lesbian at all as it is her business but she told the world on here and now this is what we are talking about.
If he never said anyone of that and said like most people asking about a place then this thread would be different
her business no need to tell us
The OP said about her right , well CT and MA would let her have that in Massachusetts and CT because of those judges unless she wants NH to have judges do it as well.
Now politics come into it again, hope you see my point

politics has a lot to do with homosexuals, i.e. teaching in schools, having parades, having marriage, adoptions for children

this is why it was addressed so to say not bothered about being in a red state doesn't really make much sense to me as those red state politics will refer to them.
For instance 3 states are having the marriage amendment because of liberal judges making laws in the states which could happen to NH.
Not because most are opposed to homosexual marriage but because they are fed up of liberal judges making laws
you even mentioned hate crimes meaning if I was attacked the person who did it would probably get a little telling off but if she was attacked the person who did it would get 15 years
that is politics too

wish them luck if this is not a wind up or skytrekker

If Suzette wants to delete all this then I have no problem with it
