When we're in Dover we usually shop in town, but we've sometimes gone to Portsmouth to shop. There are a MB, Shaws, Hannafords. I've not seen costco there, but there's a BJs that does have the low priced gas you're looking for as well as a decent supply of other things. (Is Nashua the nearest Costco?) There's also a Meat House for when you want to pay $ and get some gr--eat meat. Seems like there's a Hannafords in Exeter.

according to the costo store locator webpage, there's only 1 in NH - and it's in Nashua.

We go once a month to Sam's Club in Manchester or Nashua. Similar to Costco. For day to day stuff, we go to Market Basket...

I love Costco. I have never been to BJ's or Sam's Club so I can't compare, but Costco markets itself as slightly higher-end. In addition to all the regular stuff, they carry (or at least the one near my former house carried) Niman Ranch bacon, ham, and beef, kosher organic turkeys and chickens, San Pellegrino, organic this and that, and decent cheeses and prepared foods (pizza, rotisserie chicken, etc.) They also sell a lot of gifts at holiday time at really good prices - kids' toys, holiday cards, good chocolates, discounted gift certificates, etc.

I haven't been to the one in Nashua yet, but I'm planning to go next week to stock up!

We also shop BJ's. I don't like the produce there, some of the meat is OK, but for my husband's snacks its the best. (granola bars, doritos and such). Also good for paper products and non perishables. For bread, the Freihofer's Outlet in Manchester is great.

I like Costco, never been to the one in Nashua.

Living in the Keene area here is what I find:

Price Chopper - great new big store, horrible prices
Shaws (Keene) tiny store, no selection, place is a mess, prices are horrible
Hannafords I go there to buy my veggies by the case when they are on sale
DeMoulas - this is where I buy the bulk of my groceries.

As for the chicken.... I raise them - no store can compete with that price

where is demoulas?? i've never seen that before but haven't lived here that long

in keene, for me its always a toss up b/w hannafords and price chopper... usually I'll go to price chopper b/c they have a good gas rewards program going and I can quickly earn .50 of per gallon... plus i find their selection to be closest to what i had in buffalo... tho i miss a good international foods isle... we never needed to go to the asian or indian markets b/c 95% of what we needed was in the grocery stores.

I think shaws is a rip off. Hannaford is better and Market Basket is cheap...especially the deli....Problem is, the bread is usually stale. Here are some recent comparisons:

Mussleman's apple sauce $4.69 at Shaws (that's when I walked out)
same product $2.69 at Hannaford
Garlic & Butter croutons $1.69 Hannaford
same product at Market Basket .99

I should go on the price is right.

We have a Hannaford's in our town and I got there for quick bits and pieces during the week like milk etc but it is quite expensive. We do our main shopping at Market Basket although you don't have the same selection, you save yourself a fortune! My husband did a comparison pricing one week and I couldn't believe the difference!

Anything from a box or can -- Market Basket in Warner.

Anything fresh - local farms when I can; hannafords/co-op when I can't.
