in keene, for me its always a toss up b/w hannafords and price chopper... usually I'll go to price chopper b/c they have a good gas rewards program going and I can quickly earn .50 of per gallon... plus i find their selection to be closest to what i had in buffalo... tho i miss a good international foods isle... we never needed to go to the asian or indian markets b/c 95% of what we needed was in the grocery stores.

Well- I think the "closest" to you would be Rindge or Claremont. Keene does not have one.

I will tell you...I am very resistant to the card thing...I like to fly stealth through this world....as far as customer loyalty goes...I'm walking in the door aren't I? That's loyal enough. If I have to go to Shaws, I just get a visitors pass.

DeMoulas (Market Basket) is in Rindge. There is also a Hannaford's in Rindge. As a single mom with 7 kids in the house I really plan my grocery shopping. I tend to make a swoop in whichever direction has the sales this week. So I watch the ads, clip coupons, etc etc etc. DeMoulas is by far my favorite grocery store but I buy in bulk. Often times Hannafords has terrific deals on canned goods, frozen, etc. Also, quality toilet paper is best purchased at WalMart.
WalMart usually has better sales on coffee also. When I see these items on sale (at any store) I will purchase a few months supply.
I realize not everyone can do that. I keep two freezers in my basement and I have a generous sized pantry.
I also cheat and rasie my own livestock so I keep my meat and poultry and eggs bill at 0.00. I also raise alot of veggies in the summer and can/jar much fruits and vegetables. But with a family my size, working full time, and being a full time college student... I can only devote so much to homesteading.

ROFL!
I know it sounds like alot but seriously, I am blessed with 5 teenagers and two little ones. I get home from work - dinner is already being cooked, the laundry is done, animals fed, homework is being done, baths/showers...
I get that response all the time but I have to tell you - I honestly could not do all that I do if it wasn't for the terrific group I have. We all work/play together. 6 of my 7 are girls. We are all diverse in tastes, music, religion, etc. But we celebrate our diversity. We love to laugh and seriously enjoy each other's company. As for my distance learning - I am a new student and lets face it - anyone that knows anything about college entry classes - they are an insult to my integrity. College entry classe are nothing more than basic high school english and business etiquette. So it's not like that's very demanding.
It also helps that I am obsessive. ROFLLLLLLLLLLLL

Congrats on a great family. I love the Wal-mart in Rindge. The store manager (Tony) is a super nice guy. As far as college classes go, they are a joke to many (myself included), but it's scary how many people don't know what is being taught (and I mean recent high school grads,) oh well.

Is it just me or does Wally World not have all that great of prices on a lot of their stuff? I absolutely refuse to buy their meat. Saw some ribeye steaks there the other day and darn near gagged--$10.58 a pound for steaks that were more fat than meat. No thanks.
Calef's on Route 125 has some good deals if you're in that area and don't mind a market the size of a small closet. Picked up some Porterhouse steaks for $6.99/lb, and they do good specials for the holidays if you order in advance.

Calef's is awesome. Their cheese alone is worth the stop. As for Wal-mart's prices, check the sizes. Often their products are not the standard sizes found in other stores. Sometimes this is good, sometimes not. I do agree with not buying meat or produce there though.
