Thanks for your input. And thanks to everyone for the rep points!!
I guess getting to the volunteering is a time and situation opportunity for me.

You know something?? This is a great topic I guess it's easy to think of volunteering and then pass it off because we're just too busy... Between working, kids activities, etc, it's easy to write it off... Oh sure, we regularly donate items to Goodwill/Salvation Army or the Sonshine Soup Kitchen in Derry, and think that we're doing a good thing. However, the gift of time spent is something else altogether, and one that I would like to make a personal goal for myself. So thank you Joan, for asking the question, and all of the responders. It gave me pause for a bit of soul searching, and wondering "What can I do to help someone else?"

Well, that was a lovely comment! Thank you! I suppose lots of people would like to help if only there was a way, but as I said before, this is the right time and circumstance for me. Um, well, as soon as I get through my current issues! Hopefully that will be soon, but making plans is one way to start.
Have a great day, ValC!

Hi Joan - If you're so inclined, most hospitals are always looking for volunteers, Meals-On-Wheels usually needs volunteers as well, as do nursing homes. I realize some people have difficulties when it comes to volunteering in a hospital, though. I don't know about the schools in NH, but in NY (where we used to live) schools were always looking for volunteers as well.

Hello DTD! Yes, I had thought of schools as well. I'm looking for something really low-key to get started. I have done Meals on Wheels and that is very satisfying and useful to the people who get the meals. As a matter of fact, western NY was where I did the MOW!
Thanks for the ideas.

First, thanks for starting this thread.
Second, there are tons of volunteer opportunities out there. From the traditional soup kitchen/habitat for humanity/hospital/nursing home/blood drive/tutoring opportunities to the more hidden like volunteering at a local park, volunteering at a museum, or even volunteering to research history, etc...there is essentially a volunteer opportunity for every interest- so if you or someone you know would like to volunteer- don't feel limited by traditional opportunities.

It may also depend on where in NH you end up, but I'm not sure. I know up here in Littleton, the hospital uses volunteers as does MOW. There are other opportunities as well, but I can't think of the names right now......I *think* one of them involves helping seniors do yard work and maintenance on their homes that they may not be able to do themselves, I believe there's a Habitat for Humanity in the area, also.

BF66389 and DaretoDream,
I appreciate all the info. Looks like this thread could be useful to more people than I thought!
