Default Relocating to Nashua area

I'm graduating college and currently live in NC. I have a job lined up in Nashua and my girlfriend has one lined up in Merrimack.

I've been frequenting the forums and trying to peruse Craigslist and the Nashua Telegraph and Union Leader websites, but there are so many rental listings that it is overwhelming.

I'd like to find a 2 bedroom apartment that isn't old and outdated, and something that won't make me feel claustrophobic. My main issue is that not many people post pictures with their listings and I don't know which areas are good to live in.

Is anyone familiar with apartment complexes that have nice 2BR apartments for a good deal? Preferably something with a mid-20s population living there? I'm trying to find something starting either Dec 1 or Jan 1 and I honestly don't trust most of the pictures I see because they can be misleading.

I wish I could help out but there are apartments of varying quality and location around. You may have to talk directly with a property manager or real estate agent. There is a big ill building converted to apartments and there are old multiple dwelling places but no big apartment buildings. I think they can't build more than two stories high anymore.

I imagine that IS overwhelming, especially not knowing the area. I love craigslist, and post my listings there, but you really have to watch, as there are a number of scams going on. And, as you mentioned, not knowing the area, you doIMO, your best option may be to pursue a rental in one of the condos/townhomes in Merrimack, Nashua, or Hudson. Pictures CAN be misleading, even for those of us in the business. Often I walk into a listing wondering "where is the beautiful home in these pictures?" You might find a decent rental in Blue Stone (Nashua), Fox Hollow (Hudson), Harris Pond (Merrimack) or Kessler Farms (Nashua). All nice rentals (not sure what you're looking for in terms of monthly rent) You can also check Northern New England Real Estate Network - Official Website of the Northern New England MLS for the most current listings on the NH MLS. Most listings have property address included, which you can map with google maps or mapquest. Any questions, I'm around every couple of days

My wife and I rented at Bower's Landing in Merrimack for almost a year before we purchased our home in Hollis (we moved here from northern VA and are also in our mid-late-twenties). It was a great experience and the manager there (Paula) is very nice/accommodating. Our place had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, washer/dryer, nice closets, a nice open floorplan, everywhere gets new carpet/paint between residents and the entire complex is only 10 years old or so to begin with (but updated in '05 I think). Our rent was $1330 (included our 60 lb dog)/heat/hot water/water/plenty of parking. It was a steal compared to where we came from (rent wise)...not sure how it is on your scale. Also- it's about 2 miles from the Nashua line and only 5 minutes from the highway. There is a also a dunkin donuts at the end of the entrance to the complex that actually bakes donuts...it smells wonderful on days the wind blows the right way.

A friend of ours rents there now (after seeing our place) while there home is being built and is very happy as well.

Seriously, cannot suggest them enough. But figure on a 1 year minimum lease. I also suggest a unit that faces away from the parking lot (ours was ground floor facing away from the parking lot- ideal).

We also almost signed with another place that was listed as being great- thankfully my wife saw a roach during our tour and we didn't sign with them. They were $100/month cheaper; but the place was also circa 1995 with regard to condition- not old or bad...but not "like new" how Bower's was.

Sorry if I droned on too long...but I believe in always giving credit where credit is due.

In the mid-90's, my wife and I lived in Hollis Crossing, a condo complex off exit 6, on the Nashua/Hollis line. Nice enough. There are townhouses and garden style condos.

We had moved up from MA and did not know if we wanted to settle in NH or where. It was nice to spend a year here and then decide....

since you are totally unfamilair with the area, i think it would be a wise move to hire an agent. yes, it will cost you. but it will cost a lot less than if you end up in a 1year or longer lease in a house of horrors.
