Default Winter Wonderland in the Whites

My buddy was in town this weekend so we went and hiked up the Franconia Ridge (Mt. Lafayette, Lincoln, and Little Haystack). Perfect day but EXTREMELY windy above tree line...the windiest conditions I've ever personally been in. It literally knocked me over a few times it was so strong. I don't even want to guess what the wind chill was, but it was VERY cold. Pretty icy trails but we made it up and down without problems. He has a little more appreciation for our "hills" out here now

Crossing a few icy streams

A VERY fresh bear track from that morning....never did see it though..

Looking out at Mt. Washington...

if you'll believe it I was sweating for about 95% of that hike and only put a jacket on above tree line. It's really hard to get cold hiking as long as you keep moving. We sat behind a rock to break the wind and ate some cliff bars though and it's amazing how fast you lose the body heat. We both had a wet foot/shoe too from crossing the rivers too. Every rock was iced over. It was actually the hardest part of the whole hike.

Fishn, you are absolutely KILLING me! Those pictures are so pretty. Down here in Louisiana, it's going to be in the low 80's all week, but we are getting really nice, cool nights. That means the temp outside will actually fall below the level where we keep our A/C set and we can actually open the windows for a couple of hrs each night. I'm really not complaining, the nights have been heavenly, I'm just really looking forward to moving to NH and being able to put on pair of jeans without a shoehorn someday...
