Hampton?
How about Hampton? I too am very, very picky about schools (former teacher with two elementary aged kids) and we just left a montessori school to go to Hampton public for it's sped services. As for proximity to medical professionals: my son has immune system issues and we just had an appointment at Children's Hospital in Boston yesterday. it's an hour away. I also really like Exeter Hospital and York Hospital (York Maine). Not a fan of Portsmouth Hospital despite having two babies there and numerous ER vists. We chose Hampton b/c the home prices are more reasonable. As a Rye,NH native, I would have like to live in a tonier town than Hampton but budgets prevailed. Avoid Hampton Beach at all costs but Rye beaches are beautiful. UNH is 30 minutes away. Best of luck!

Hi Michelle,
My condolences - I'm in MD, too (Laurel) NH is so much saner, calmer than around here. My sister was just on a vacation to VA Beach, and she said she couldn't understand how we could put up with all the traffic!
So when are you looking to move north? I'm on a 4yr plan.

Hi Michelle - would be happy to answer any questions for you if I can! Post here or DM, whichever you prefer.
Wanna, I didn't realize you were in Laurel -- I lived there twice...once in a condo in Laurel Lakes in '94 and again in a townhouse in the Howard county part off of Rt 216 north of 95 (for 2 years, 97-98)

NDQ,
lol! I have some friends that live off Glenn Hannah out that way. I'm in Old Town, not far from Main St. Long ago, we lived off Contee for a while before we bought our house.

What a small world - we were on Whiterock Court off of Glen Hannah! We rented a town house before we bought in Severna Park. I was back there a couple of years ago and was stunned at how much it changed -- that new big road and the traffic circle with the food lion and the huge shopping plaza...

Soon as we can find employment and buy a home... I want out, immediately. I project by the end of the school year. We have one child in school and would rather wait till school ends and have another headache. Still unfamiliar to what area to move to. What areas are you looking at in NH?

Jackie,
I have worked in the mental health field and would like to stay in it for the most part. I have researched the areas and noticed more agencies in central/southern versus northern. But reluctant due to mass quantities of pple. Can you tell me what areas to avoid?

Michelle,
My requirement for where we (meaning I) looked was no farther north than Concord - and that was pushing it, no further west than New Ipswich and that was pushing it. Mostly because I feel those are the borders of the weather change. If you watch weather maps, things tend to go on a diagonal, and inside that area gets slightly less snow than the rest of the state. DH didn't believe me until he was looking in some of his books and it showed some weather pattern or something that showed exactly what I was saying!
Now HE would probably be happy up in Northeast Kingdom, VT... but I remember what winter was like there and I refuse to do that (more power to you VTer - not for me!).
We thought we were going to settle in Deering, almost did, but instead we've bought land in New Ipswich. Interestingly, he feels that NI has the same 'remote'/quiet feel to it that the more central & northerly towns did even though it's on the Mass border. Once you get to Nashua and points east, it gets more populated (by NH standards).
