Default Halloween Scheduled?

Hi everyone. I am relocating to NH next month, just bought a house in Dover, and was perplexed by something I read - that Halloween is scheduled and not necessarily on the 31st. What is going on? What will happen if my daughter wants to go trick-or-treating on the 31st? Will she be fined or arrested? One of the things which most attracted me to NH was the small government mentality. Can someone please fill me in?

Well, good luck is with you, because your daughter didn't miss Trick or Treat as she would have done this year had you already been in Dover Dover's (along with a handful of other towns) scheduled their trick or treat for Thursday 10/30 from 5-8 PM. I'm sure she wouldn't be fined or arrested, but she may be disappointed that everybody is fresh out of candy to give out to little goblins who trick or treat a day late Derry's was on Saturday 10/25 and Manchester & Auburn was on Sunday 10/26. The majority of towns had trick or treat on 10/31... Just be sure to check the papers for next year!

Halloween fell on a Friday this year. Some towns felt the risk of kids on the street and the Friday-night party/bar drivers multiplied by the occasion were the wrong mix. Anyhoo, lighten up a bit! Nobody is going to get arrested/fined!!

It's also not just in NH - many states and towns do that. That said, we can't really trick or treat where we are at all -- too far to walk! Where there aren't a lot of "neighborhoods" (and even in towns where there are) there is often TorT on main street in the shops, or t community center parties, etc.

This year DH took our 4.5 year old to a pre-school friend's neighborhood in a nearby town. My 9 year old and I were in Disney World!

Remember that about small government. Most of your tax money is spent by your town - which puts a few of your neighbors in control of possibly millions of dollars. It's very important to know who you're voting for in town elections else you could end up with an entirely different mentality running things.

Sure you can! You just do what most of us did: instead of a parent walking around with you, you drive them. did it every year. We followed my bus route. Perfectly normal.

I should have said "choose not to" rather than "can't" It's all what you're used to, I guess!
