I guess I am either seriously dense or seriously uncool. QQQQ??
I had friends from Jersey whose plates were WHTXIT (what exit)
I should have gotten vanity plates - I registered my car awhile ago and still don't know what my license plate is.

cute...I didn't get it either..
they are an extra $25.00 when you first buy them and then they are just $5.00 more than a regular plate each year afterwards
however, when you want to turn them in and return to number plates, it's an additional $25.00 to switch back. So, most people just keep the plates forever.
a good friend has ILUVSX and the plate was suspended temporarily until he went to a hearing re: the appropriateness - he explained that his girlfriend was Suzie Xanteppe and he was allowed to keep his plate. (he made up the name, but it worked...).
I had vanity plates for years, but I prefer to be anonymous these days.

If you go on the state website and click on the little license plate, you can type in all of the possibilities to see if it's available...when you re-register your car you can apply for the vanity...but just because something is available doesn't mean it will be approved.

 I know what you mean.
Similarly, being a born and raised New Yorker (though not lived there since 1987...) I find I am now an excellent defensive driver just about anywhere *except* New York... I've lost too much of my edge to drive in the city anymore!

I have seen LAGNAF which was a term I had not heard since high school in Boston in the 1970's. I saw GDINBED on a huge late 1960's convertible once. Saw THRAPY on a hotrod.

One of my plates starts with Veteran. Good enough.
