Default NH "Vanity Plates"

Never have I seen more "vanity plates" (license plates) than in New Hampshire! They are *everywhere*!

Any ideas on why? And what are your favorites/funniest that you've seen? I saw one yesterday at Colby-Sawyer that said +think

They are cheap (certainly compared to CA where I was before) and there's a good chance the one you want is available because of the low state population and full 7-characters you have to play with.

NH is second-only to Virgina in it's use of vanity plates. I personally have never understood the attraction of a vanity plate but to each their own. The fact that they are "more affordable" than in most other states is part of the reason.

They cost about $25 to get and it is a one time fee. I believe that it costs more in MA and they charge you a premium every year. We have four cars and two have vanity plates. On one it is an antique car so the vanity plate is related to that. On the other, my kids wanted something "cool" on the uncool car I got them to drive... NH has a lot of independent thinkers who do not want to be like everyone else...

Actually, it's not a one-time fee. You pay the extra bucks every year you register your car.

I love vanity plates. That's how I identify people I know when I'm on the road (obviously I live in a small community). I never notice the car, I notice the plate.

I'm embarrassed to say, but we have six cars in our little family and every one has a vanity plate.

My favorite plate was FXELAD...she drove a cute little red sports car!

Do you know how much it is? I'll have to dig out the registration info from the last time I paid...

I worked at the DMV...they have people that study the requests and deny anything that can remotely been seen as off color or unsavory...for instance you'll never see QQQQ
