I guess I should have said that retail stores are my last option! I am the Queen of consignment stores, etc. And like most people, I also hand things down between my kids and my girlfriends' kids, which really cuts costs. I also live in places like TJ Maxx -- I have no patience for the trashier stores (not clean, poorly organized, etc.) but the nice ones are a goldmine.

There's a consignment shop in Grantham and one in Tilton (Growing Like a Weed) I've been meaning to get to. I love finding new shops - though weeding out the good ones form the junk takes some effort. I'm going to start a new thread on it - thanks for reminding me I've been meaning to do that.

All that said, my general M.O. is to get the best deal possible on quality items. I'd pay more for quality things that last rather than buy lower quality pieces that fall apart after a few wearings, don't wash well, aren't warm enough, etc.
