Depends on the co-op, i think. The Lebanon/Hanover ones are very much like Whole Foods, but bigger and imho better -- they have a great lunch counter and more local foods than my WF in Annapolis did.
The co-op in the town next door to me is much smaller and more like a mom-and-pop natural foods store, though it has just moved and expanded...looking forward to seeing the renovated space when it opens!
Much of both stores is organic. A lot of foods in both are local and raised prganically though not certified -- it's a long, expensive process so some farmers son't bother.
Thank you Jackie for the info,we have a co op being built here in Littleton and we were told it's going
to be like the one in Hanover. When we lived in Long Island we shopped in Whole Foods and they had a Lunch and deli counter and a big bakery dept also.
That's neat - I think you'll like it. I don't remember the WF on LI near my mom having a lunch counter - maybe they are different in different stores. In Annapolis we had a prepared foods counter and a deli, etc. and the salad bar things with hot and cold foods, but the co-op has something like a little restaurant in it!
roerinaci - In case you don't have the link for the co-op, here it is: Littleton Consumer Cooperative Society, Inc. - if you click on the link for site/building info it shows the proposed floor plan and an idea of what they'll have.
If you feel like taking a drive, head over to StJ and check out the food co-op there. It's a lot smaller than Hanover, but it'll give you a good idea as to what one is like. Also in StJ is Natural Provisions which is a larger natural foods store, but not a co-op. Glad to hear Littleton is moving along with establishing one!
