Default andover, danbury area for retirement

Any comments on living in these areas for retirement? Would you say friendly environment? Thank you. My husband is an outdoor man and avid shooter.

That is a nice quiet area with plenty of hunting and fishing. People in this area are friendly. Other towns close by are;
New London, Orange, Grafton and Wilmot

Default Andover

Hello,
My grandparents retired in Andover and lived there many years. That is where I spent summers and vacations. The people in that area are great and very friendly. Highland Lake is beautiful. The area is just picturesque. Spending time there is why I want to live in NH and no other state will do.
Hope this helps !
Leah

I've lived in Andover for more than ten years. It is a beautiful town, but I have to say, it is very very redneck. If that suits you, it'll be a good choice, if not, you'll actually be looked down on. There is a private elite high school in Andover, and those folks refuse to associate with the townies, and the townies refuse to associate with the proctor people. Both looking down on the other, either for being snooty or redneck. A large (very large) subset of folks have been in Andover for many many generations, and don't like outsiders too much.

Unless you retire right in Andover village, you'll have to deal with a great deal of snow removal on your own, there's only one part time doctor in town, with the next closest about 30 minutes away, there is no town refuse removal, which means you go to the dump yourself.

If you like to sit around all weekend drinking beer and smoking pot with your teenager, you'll fit right in. I've had enough. I'm moving.

Generally in towns with no refuse removal, you can contract for it privately. Our cost is very reasonable for a large quantity of bi-weekly pickup (so high a quantity in fact we never use it; but I still prefer bi-weekly so we don't have to store trash for a monthly pickup). Just do your research!
