Our family rents in Weare, no fireplace, no nothing. We had no choice but to leave. Our landlord isnt going to fix broken pipes. We fled to Lake George, in a hotel that God knows we cant afford this close to Christmas. Anyone have any updates in Power in Weare? Much appreciated, need to get outta this hotel!!

Maybe we were just having sympathy outage for NH????

LACarole - I heard from Lisa yesterday afternoon - they were without power and expecting to be without power for a few days. I haven't heard anything or seen anything from Colebrook.

Diana - I can't help you with how things are in Weare, but when you say Lake George, do you mean Lake George in NYS? (I just had to ask - it's near where my son lives )

Hey all - we lost power Friday morning at about 3am (so DH tells me - I was stranded in DC and didn't get back until about 11:30am Friday) -- since they said it would be a few days until power was restored and we don't have our wood stove or fireplace yet, we took the kids to Portland ME for some imprompteau pre-Christmas holly-jolly.
We did get power back by 9am this morning (bright idea - we called our answering machine and it picked up...therefore, power) but we decided to stay here anyway and enjoy the weekend.
Our contractor checked on our house and said all was well, but that Sunapee (20 mins south of us) was a huge mess. Mt. Sunapee and Ragged Mt. were closed today - no power!
The Marriott we checked into in South Portland was at 100% occupancy last night!
Hope you all are well and safe and get power back soon!
- Jackie

Diana412,
I lost power Thursday evening near midnight. The 3 phase high power lines shorting out along River Road lit the sky pretty well accompined by that loud "bell ringing" snap of the arc. I tried to report the outage to Public Srevice but the wait was over 35 minutes to reach customer service.
Standing on the porch in total darkness and silence, the sounds of breaking tree branches echoed through the night like gun fire as the slow collection of ice weighed them down to the breaking point. The rain was relativly light but contant. I made sure the wood stove was stoked and headed to bed.
I took a drive the following morning. The road surface wasn't too bad. I drove the six miles to the intersection of Rt 77. I counted nearly 25 trees/brances shorting the service wires in that short distance. Trees covered much of the travelway of the road. Although not slippery, many roads were marked off or closed totally.
My power was restored last night. The town centers of Goffstown and Weare were still out of power Friday. There are still pockets of outages, even along Rt 114. Many secondary roads in Dunbarton and Weare, as well as Goffstown, were still without power or opened roads today. There are just so many spots to repair that the crews, God bless em, are working 24 hours straight and some folks haven't seen anyone to repair the downed tree in their driveways as of yet.
Hopefully, by the end of the weekend, we'll all be back on line, safe, warm and even clean. The one thing I hate the most during power outages is the loss of water pressure.
Hope all of you are safe and having a warm day.....

Does anyone possibly have a map depicting which counties or towns were hit the worst by this ice storm? It seems to me that some areas were hit much worse than other areas. I believe northern and central portions of NH had less icing and less damage overall.

We drove all the way up to Sunapee to our house last night only to discover there was no electricity! How long has it been out? So many trees down all along the road, too. We had to turn around and come back home!

An update from the PSNH website:
Sunday, December 14, 2008 5:30 a.m.
As of 5:30 a.m., PSNH reports that about 194,000 customers are without power, a significant decrease from the 313,000 customers reported at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Power Restoration: Progress is Steady
With the support of about 180 PSNH and contract line crews and over 120 tree-trimming crews, more than 500 outage troubles were repaired in communities throughout the state. (An outage trouble is defined as all of the repairs on a section of line that must be made to restore customers’ power).
The company’s power restoration workforce will be enhanced further on Sunday with over 120 additional crews from Maryland, Ohio, and Canada, who arrived throughout the evening and early morning hours. In total, there will be 335 line crews on the PSNH system working to restore power. With clear weather expected on Sunday, it is anticipated that considerable progress can be made during the day.
