Tomorrow will be a normal workday for many people except for anyone who works for a school district. Check the list of school cancellations for tomorrow: New Hampshire School Closings and Delays, Manchester Business Closings from WMUR

Thanks, ValC! I looked at the link and that seems to be quite an impact on local population!

I notice your byline: less money to your power company for no service? Good luck with that one. Down here in the Carolinas we've had terrible droughts for a couple of years and everyone got on the bandwagon to conserve water consumption. Well, we did such a good job that the water company RAISED our rates to pay for the lack of funds coming in! WHAMMY!!!

You'll probably be paying for the repairs in some fashion, sorry to say.

For all of you affected by the storm - I am sorry for your trials.

I am on the MA/NH border in Fitzwilliam. We were hit pretty hard. A large tree sheared the back side of my house and took out my back porch. Other than that just a lot of yard/tree damage. We aren't expecting to have power until Friday at best. It truly looks like a disaster site around town. I am fortunate to be able to get drinking water from the well and utilize the woodstove for heat and cooking. Our local gas station keeps running out of gas and stores within a 30 mile radius keep running out of water. The schools are closed. God bless and stay warm.

Val- with a 3 day outage...you'll save roughly 10% on your electric bill since the meter was completely stopped for roughly 10% of the month (3/30). I know some power companies provide limited reimbursement for spoiled foods and whatnot as well (in VA we received $200 one year...the maximum).

Thanks BF We're on day 4, and really not sure when power will be restored. According to WMUR, Londonderry has the biggest shelter in the state right now, so even when we do have power at the house, I don't believe the kids will have school. And just think, according to the calendar, it's still officially Autumn...

I'm so sorry to hear about your house! Is the rest of the house secure from the weather?

Wow...this is beginning to sound like the ice storm of 1998 that we had up here in NO VT and northern NY/Southern Quebec Montreal area. People went 2 weeks w/o power. It's not fun. Hope you all are faring well and here's hoping it doesnt take 2 weeks to get power restored to those that don't have it yet!

Today is the first day that I have not heard the distant hum of generators around my home.

My Son-in-law travels the southwestern part of the state. Francestown, Greenfield, Peterborough, Rindge and places in between continue to have major areas without power. Although we were hit pretty hard, He tells me that many in that area won't see electricity soon. Some may not see power until nearer Christmas.

Hope all are well, safe and warm......

Jaqui - Sorry to hear about your porch. Scary! Glad it missed your house! How do you get water from your well without electricity? Not having running water drove me out faster than the heat issue.

We have a bunch of limbs down as well but got power back today and I am so happy that the pipes didn't freeze!

Hope everyone gets power back soon!

Thank you for your kindnesses.

The house did not sustain much more in damages. Only the side and porch.

To get water from my well - I go outside, move the cover off, and drop a bucket down. I use the duck pond to get water for the toilet.

With 7 in the house you can imagine the amount of dishes/laundry that is out of control. I leave for work at 5:00AM (dark) and I don;t arrive home until 5:30PM (dark) and we are using oil lamps and candles. This makes doing anything quite a trial. I lost all the meats in both freezers in the basement and all the food in the upstairs refrigerator. And our local stores still aren't able to stock necessities.

The girl's schools are still out. The electric companies have not yet begun to work in our town. Our town, being as small as it is, does not have emergency shelter. They are referring people to Jaffrey.

That is not in my ability to utilize and still make it to work.

So we are still "roughing it" and it looks like we will be until the weekend although the latest news is hinting at goal dates for us well after Christmas.

Now there is a storm warning in effect for our area - snow.

I honestly have to laugh at this.

With all the trial it is, and will continue to be, I still feel the same for where I live. The destruction was immense and it was awesome in it's beauty. But that's what defines those of us in this region the way we are.

God bless to those of you still squandering as I am. My prayers to you.

jaqui
