Jaqui - I just have to say, I sooooo admire your spirit! Even with all your trials and tribulations, you keep on truckin' and are able to laugh at the snow forecast! You definitely embody the "New Hampshire Spirit"!
I hope and pray that you get your power back way before you expect it, you have the food you need and your home is able to be repaired quickly.

To get water from my well - I go outside, move the cover off, and drop a bucket down. I use the duck pond to get water for the toilet.
With 7 in the house you can imagine the amount of dishes/laundry that is out of control. I leave for work at 5:00AM (dark) and I don;t arrive home until 5:30PM (dark) and we are using oil lamps and candles. This makes doing anything quite a trial. I lost all the meats in both freezers in the basement and all the food in the upstairs refrigerator. And our local stores still aren't able to stock necessities.
The girl's schools are still out. The electric companies have not yet begun to work in our town. Our town, being as small as it is, does not have emergency shelter. They are referring people to Jaffrey.
That is not in my ability to utilize and still make it to work.
So we are still "roughing it" and it looks like we will be until the weekend although the latest news is hinting at goal dates for us well after Christmas.
Now there is a storm warning in effect for our area - snow.
I honestly have to laugh at this.
With all the trial it is, and will continue to be, I still feel the same for where I live. The destruction was immense and it was awesome in it's beauty. But that's what defines those of us in this region the way we are.
God bless to those of you still squandering as I am. My prayers to you.

jaqui: You are a real trooper to hang in like that! I wish I could send you a pile of warm air from my house (!) or a solar power panel or something. As it is, warm wishes are all I have!
Take care...

I wish you to know this:
Never underestimate your kind word, slight deed, kind gesture. Never underestimate how powerful you are in the lives of others that may never tell you, you may never know, you may never meet.
My life is so filled. I am a workaholic. That's a good thing, I would not be able to maintain my family if I were not.
My life leaves little time for socialization. You would not find me out at a show, going to parties, gatherings, etc. I have no family other than my children. There are no aunts, parents, etc. It's just me and the kids.
This is my way of staying connected with others that are like minded. This is my way of getting support, insight, creating friendships. Some of you may find that quite sad. I am grateful.
Don't think my strong will means that at times I don't feel crushed by the weight.... I'm just not allowed to falter. I prefer to find the good and aim for it. That is why I am especially attached to my surroundings.
So from no one out in cyberland who is gone when you sign off, know this, what a great blessing to me that you are. What a gift that I have this many more to pray for. And Christmas isn't even here yet.
Thank you.

Finally came back early this morning!
Hope everyone is managing to somehow stay warm! It's getting cold again!
As for us, our sump pump stopped working, and at 9:30 am Friday our basement was starting to flood. Luckily Dh's uncle loaned up a generator, so that got the pump working again. We stayed with cousins til Sunday morning, and came back to partial power until today. We have some super nice neighbors that kept our tank filled while we were gone and had us over for two nights so we could take showers. Other than that it wasn't too bad. Kind of like cabin living! Our kids are so little (3 and 18 months) they didn't know the difference. The older one only understood she couldn't watch videos or listen to music. Otherwise she was fine.

Welcome back, Maestramommy!
wow, I've been reading the Monadnock Ledger: Mascenic is closed until Jan - they're using it as a water depot. They've set up shelters all over the Mon. area latest info and most towns still without power talks about how today they're just trying to get up Main St in Peterborough.
Sorry, Jaqui - it doesn't seem to cover anything about Fitzwilliam, but I hope our friends in Peterborough are making it through ok. I know Lukedaddy is there and Rexicanna. Isn't there someone else in that area?

jaqui, Thanks for sharing. This is a great community and I bet you are not the only one who comes here to connect sometimes. I wish you only the best.
And yes, welcome to maestramommy! So glad your power is back on and you can get back to normal! Kids just bounce through so much, don't they??

Jaqui - I didn't find what you said above to be sad at all. Personally, I have formed wonderful friendships through the internet. Many years ago when Prodigy had a strong internet presence, I was struggling with agoraphobia and panic disorder and a forum there was my life-line. I ended up meeting many wonderful people (some in person, some just online) and we are still in touch and still have a "bond."
There are times when we all feel overwhelmed or crushed but know we just have to 'suck it up' and keep on moving.....feel free to let us know when you need a lift, I'm sure many of us would be happy to give it to you You might want to check the "Off-Topic Chat" sticky here in NH, too, so we won't upset anyone by being Off-Topic for the thread at hand.
I hope you get your power back sooner than expected and that you don't get much snow from this new storm!
