Hi Joan - If you go to this thread: http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-h...storm-n-h.html
you'll see various "reports" on how different areas are doing. Up here in Littleton, we were fine, never lost power - the areas to the south and west seem to have gotten the brunt of the storm......

DTD! Glad you are OK!! Thanks for the suggestion. I did a cursory search of recent posts and didn't find that one! Guess that teaches me to be more patient.
Thanks for the post. Please take care and keep in touch!

Here in Nashua my home lost power from about midnight Thursday/Friday until 2 PM Friday. The water in my sump overflowed onto the basement floor at about 10 Am though. When the power came back the sump pump got back into business and soon the 1 /12 inches of water was gone.
We went to a Christmas party of the Chinese cultural society of greater Nashua last night ( my wife and adopted daughter are Chinese) in a Lutheran Church hall and several families there were still without power. One family was using the hall's basement as a shelter.
The storm covered everything in ice and a great many trees are damaged. Most of the Ice melted from the trees to fall on the ground but it got very cold quickly and parts have a coating of ice fragments like a carpet of broken glass.
We are OK but one street over I can hear a generator running and last night on the way back from the party we saw some streets partly blocked with branches and some streets were still dark (in contrast to those that had Christmas lights on).
This storm is going to be devastating to businesses that counted on a shopping weekend before Christmas!

Wow. That sounds like one of the worst types of storms I remember from living in the north. I'm glad you and your family are ok and having a little fun!
You are so right about the economic impact. Hopefully the situation with righten itself before too long. Have you seen power company trucks/employees out fixing the lines? Or are the conditions still too bad?

I also continue hear at least 3 or 4 generators running in and around my area of Weare. Those small pocket outages will take some time to restore. I've seen one utility outfit in my area. This company was based out of Maryland and was working Dunbarton. Other than that, it's tree service workers or town employees.

Is the storm pretty much over then? I mean, except for the cleanup!

Ice Storms are rough to take when you lose power, sump pumps don't work, no lights, no heat, and worst of all you can't watch football on Sunday! I hope you have all the power on by no later than half time!
Ice storms do make for good memories.

In Nashua, we had no snow just lots of rain and it turned into an ice storm. We haven't had a snow storm yet.
We just came back from swimming at the YMCA and shopping. There were people from the Merrimack YMCA there because they still don't have power. I overheard some people asking around if they had power back yet. Some didn't. I guess the YMCA is a good place to warm up and have a hot shower.
I still hear a generator running on the next street over but it seems that all street lights and businesses are back up and running.
Pine trees suffered the most and any cluster of them has a pile of litter underneath. (we have a lot of tall White Pines around here.) I got gas ($1.69) and saw a guy filling two 5 gallon gas cans ( for generators) but for most around here I guess tomorrow will be a normal work day.

Thanks for all the good info, y'all! I do so hope you are correct about tomorrow being a normal workday.
It's kind of strange, people who have not been brought up in that kind of weather think the whole thing is a disaster, and there can be some terrible outcomes, but mostly it's business as usual for those who are prepared.
When we moved south 25 years ago, we just laughed at the people who even HEARD about one snowflake and went bonkers.
I'm kinda homesick for it all!!!
Best to you.
