If you are somewhere alse and want a feeling of a new England winter, also in +/-1850. His poem of Snowbound, can send a chill through your bones even in July, speaking of tunneling to the barn to feed the animals etc.;
Poets' Corner - John Greenleaf Whittier - Snow-Bound

In warmer weather his homestead is a museum off rout 110 in Haverhill MA and Merrimc MA a stones throw from Plaistow N.H.

If you are into Robert Frost's homestead is a nice day trip in summer in Derry.

Back in the old days they would drag a snow roller about 8 foot in diameter, filled with weight over the roads with a team of horses to make them passable in winter.

"Snowbound" was the first Whittier poem I ever read, and it still has a huge impact on me. I think reading it has caused me to be proactive when I hear about upcoming storms. Thanks for reminding me of it.
