oooh, great thread!!
I'm a little confused with the upcoming storm here in the upper valley. If you read out forecast office, they say most areas stay snow, but if you read Burlington VT's forecast office, most in VT flip over to sleet/freezing rain, which would most likely mean that we do so as well. I haven't looked at the computer models/soundings yet, though I will soon.
But it seems like a difficult forecast and I think different people are latching onto different solutions.

Basically, the mountains will get mostly snow in VT and NH while southern and central areas will flip over to sleet and freezing rain during the day tommorrow. Total precipitation amounts will be lighter compared with the last major storm, and an ice storm is not likely at this point.

Looks like the Farmer's Almanac has been pretty much dead-on so far this year. They predicted colder than normal winter.

They were a tad off so far..
For the northeast they predicted Dec would be 7-8F below average, and it ended up being 1.1F above average at the official reporting station in Concord.

We had about 1-2 inches of snow, not its sleet/freezing rain. Maybe we'll get a couple inches on the back side. I really hate sleet.

I have snow flurries right now, wondering how many inches we will get out of this storm 1/10/09. I heard 3-5 inches or 5-9. I live in Weare, NH so we usually get the worst out of the storm. We are on the snow belt in NH.

Only coatings of snow are likely tonight and Thursday. The coldest low wil probably be Friday night with temperatures below -10F throughout much of central and northern NH. -25F and lower is possible in Berlin and Whitefield.
