Just moved to Memphis, TN and I moved here because I couldn't stand the snow. Now I miss it like crazy. Wish I could go back now, and def will as soon as I can. That should tell you something.

Yes maestramommy- he was joking. He was replying to the other post by Kelticnomad-which is basically a page out of the pro-income and pro-sales tax playbook. Tell everyone our schools are "horrible" and won't be up to par until we institute an income tax, a sales tax or perhaps both.

Brave Stranger can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he was alluding to the fact that these states have all these taxes and are still in a mess and don't have the greatest schools, even with the outrageous taxation and out of control spending. All states have good schools and bad schools. Throwing more $$ at a school will not automatically make it better as much as the tax and spenders would like us all to believe.

I also have to take issue with something else that was written in that post by Kelticnomad. The only way that your child can succeed in NH is to hire a tutor? That is simply not true.

Ecuse me I think we have many folks who reply on the forum who are open to different opinions and insights..it is up to the person who poses the question to form the opinion that best suits them or to ask for clarification. I guess from me I was an educator for many years and worked in poor school districts to help the kids. It was hard for me to see how difficult it was to get educational help for them due to the lack of resources ( teachers and teaching assistants aka aides ) I love Nh and like that it doesn't have an income tax or sales tax I am not posting here to get into a debate or maligning or judging others, IMHO that is a wast of my time. It has been stated a million times over on threads and posts recommendations of towns that have good schools. The correlation here is that home prices are high and the real estate taxes are high but that all depends on where you are coming from..........Its pretty easy to see re sales data for any individual who wants to move to nh. Nh has not really been victim to significant foreclosures as the rest of the country

I never said that you weren't entitled to your opinion-you are and so am I as is everyone on this board. However if you post something alluding to the fact that schools here aren't great because of a lack of an income or sales tax and that you will need a tutor for your kid to get through school, I think that you should expect that there will be responses to that and that it could in fact stir up a debate.

Yikes!!!! All I'm trying to do is to convince my wife to move to NH, not start any debate!!! Seriously, all of your comments are welcomed and I appreciate your input. School performance is what you make of it; granted, some have less income than others, but if the tools are there, it's up to the student and their parents to make it work. Regardless, there are so many other reasons why I would love to move to NH. Thanks again for the help.

You have it right If throwing money at schools was the answer Washington D.C. would have the best schools in the USA.

I moved to New Hampshire 35 years ago from the Chicago area!! Talk about cold winters!!! This week we are experiencing a cold snap, as is the rest of the country, but it is almost over and we will be heading up the thermometer! I've never regretted it here. My kids have grown, left the area, missed it and have come back. They ski and snow board in the mountains, and hit the beaches (as do I!!) in the summer. So much to see and do all year and close to great cities like Boston, Portsmouth, Portland, etc. How about spending some vacation time up here at various times of the year and various areas of the state. Each region has so much to offer.

We're planning a trip in June. I hope that once my wife sees how beautiful your state is and all it offers, she'll convince herself it's the place to move to. There's only so much I can explain to her on how nice life would be up there; she'll have to see and experience it herself first hand to know what I mean. I hope it helps. Thanks for your input!

Help!!! We're less than two years from leaving Orlando, FL (thank God!!), and I need all of you to help me convince my wife to move to New Hampshire. The biggest hurdle: the weather. It's no secret that your winters are cold and brutal. I have lived in Florida for over thirty years since moving from the Northeast, but I'm ready to go back. My wife was born and raised here, so, although she's used to the weather down here, she absolutely hates the heat and the hurricane season. She's all with me when it comes to leaving Florida, but where to go is the issue. We currently have land in Virginia that's up for sale. Initially, we planned to move there, but over the years, my heart and mind tells me New Hampshire would be the better place to raise our family (we have two young girls). I've been to NH a few times and reallly loved the place. Both of us want to move to an area to experience the four seasons, and, while Virginia offers that, it doesn't have the winters you all have (namely, the incredible amount of snow). Plus, Virginia seems to have too many poor areas and their taxes (overall) are too high. I've tried to explain to my wife that there are other reasons to move to NH (quality of life, natural beauty, low crime, quality education, etc.) but, it's always back to the cold, cold, cold. I plan to work after I retire from my job here, so she probably won't have to (unless she wants to). Without me sounding redundant and talking in circles, my question to all of you is: Is life in New Hampshire worth the months of cold and snow? Are there any of you living there now that were in my exact same position years ago and regret moving to New Hampshire? Is your spouse, initially opposed to moving to the cold, happy they made the move? Obviously, I realize that all of us are different and what applies to one may not apply to the other, but, I'm counting on your experiences to help guide us through this decision making process. Thanks for your input.
I live in pa. I have all my life. I hate the winters. I came down to kissimmee fl and we plan to move there in 2 years. New hampshire is really pretty. I was there in 1978. I say stay where you are for now and put in in god's hands and ask him where he wants you to move. When you do this. You will know where you will move at. I can not wait to move away from the cold.
