At 7:30 am, the Londonderry Lancer Marching Band (7 busloads of them!) departed for Washington DC. Escorted by police and military vehicles, they passed under a HUGE American Flag at Mack's Apples. We look forward to hearing more from our travelers as they join in the Inauguration parade, and once again take their place as New Hampshire's representative to a monumental event.

Pictures and information on our Lancers can be found on their website at: LancerMusic.org: Official Londonderry High School Lancers Music Site

We are so proud of these kids!!

Val, I hope they have clear driving down! So where are they staying? You wouldn't believe all the hoo-ha: they are blocking all the bridges into DC - only allowing foot & bicycle traffic (and that was revised). I'm guessing only buses with special passes will be allowed to cross. The metro stations will be jammed full (and they've put Obama's face on the tickets , but you have to leave money on it to keep the ticket! )

I'm sure after your subzero weather, they'll be please with here. I think it was up into the 30s today. Looks like snow, there may be some flurries, but...

I hope they have a grand time (I"m staying home and bolting my doors!)

I was just thinking about them this afternoon! What an honor. Good luck to them, and hope they manage to stay warm!

didn't get to see them...the parade was an hour late and it seemed to go much longer than usual. The stands were empty and dark by 5:30 and the parade was still running.

there were numerous complaints that thousands of people didn't make it to watch the parade even though they had tickets. if spectators were not there already by 1PM, they weren't allowed access to the parade route.

At 1PM, Secret Service spokesman Malcolm Wiley said the entrance at 13th and E streets had closed for the day. The entrance at 14th and E was also closed.

I'm sure it was a fun time for the band. I heard there were 10,000 participating groups in the parade. Guess I can't complain about waiting for local parades... DD was #43 in Manchester's x-mas parade and I thought that was a long wait. I can't imagine being #9,999.

What an experience! Got to see Vermont's representative in the parade on the local news here on the other side of the CT River (Brattleboro Union HS). Hopefully Londonderry HS got some exposure too! I'm sure its something those kids and their chaperones will remember forever!

Smile Welcome Back Lancers...

Video? You ask for video? Of the Lancers?? Country, you might know by now that one of my favorite things to post is a Lancer video (thank you for asking!)

Yes, our favorite world travelers are back in Londonderry once again, with many tales to tell of their 2 days in DC. From what I've gathered so far, waiting, waiting, waiting for the parade to step off wasn't the highlight of the trip, but these kids are just terrific wherever they go. I have yet to ask them how many spectators were along the parade route... Oh and BTW, my kiddo was not part of the group that traveled, but NYC for St. Patrick's parade every year and the China Olympic trip last year are memories for a lifetime

So on to the important stuff--video Here you go:

Awesome video, Val!!

I have friends that were stuck outside the dreaded purple zone for hours and hours - never made it in. They were pretty bummed. I have other friends who were on the pre-dawn acela train from NYC and made it just fine. All the mess seemed to be in that one purple area. A real shame for thos folks.

As for the metro cards -- yes you have to keep money on the metro card to get it back - that's just how metro works. The card reader will swallow it if you have exact change. however, all it takes is 5 cents and you'll get your card back...not bad for a souvenier.
