You guys are funny with the snow comments.

A town, only 2.5 hours from me here in Colorado, got 480+ inches last year.

I didn't need a helicopter, nor snowmobile, to get there. Actually, I drove my front wheel drive Honda Civic.

Back to the house. I'm making plans to fly into either Manchester, or into Long Island and driving up.

Manchester airport is the best bet. It has nearly direct connections to anywhere in NH and will save you a 4 hour drive from NYC.

On a side note, I have two questions, both in relation to the house:

It's currently set up with propane based, hot water baseboards.

1. What is the current price for a gallon of propane in NH?

2. I plan on putting in a outdoor wood boiler. Are the crazy environmentalist's trying to ban them or heavily regulate them?

Good advice from Val on making sure you have an out or two on your contract. Especially if you haven't visited the property (which I'm assuming) or, had someone you trust acknowledge it's basic present condition. Photographs may be worth a thousand words but hardly tell the whole picture.

I'm finding it somewhat amusing that, coming from Colorado, your concerned about our winters. I shouldn't think our winters are not much different unless attitude is a factor. I'll assume your winters are, perhaps, based more on dry snow with windy conditions as compared to our normal wet snow falls.

But, all in all, I think you'll be just fine. Hope all goes well with your sale.

Thanks for the post.

I've been to the house last Dec. The price was too high for what it was, and we pretty much wrote it off.

Regarding the actual contract; my wife is an attorney, and will protect us well.

I'm in western Colorado. We get less than 18" of snow per year; It's really a desert. Very low humidity and the last few days have been in the low 50's.

those are some might contrasts in snow accumulation in Colorado - 480 inches vs. 18 inches

NH's snow levels are based on what is received in Concord, not what Mt. Washington gets.

We've had a fair share already this year with no melting days to speak of. March is normally our snowiest month, so it's a wait and see for our total seasonal amounts.

The days are getting longer...just one more third of winter to go....

We have propane. I believe it was $2.57/gallon a couple of weeks ago. This site says $2.71: Weekly New Hampshire Propane Residential Price (Cents per Gallon)

When we built our house we went for propane for heat, hot water, cooking and the dryer. Electricity is high in NH. Our electric bill doubled from MA to NH when we moved here...

Do you know what you are paying per KwH in NH? I thought I saw somewhere on the internet it was $.20/KwH.

it's not so easy to state because it is not listed on the monthly bill. Instead we get a statement that says:

549kWh for January 2009

customer charge $8.93
KWH distribution charge 549 X$0.029140 $16.00
Transmission charge 549 X $0.010350 $5.68
Stranded cost recovery charge 549 X $0.010520 $5.78
Systems Benefit charge 549 X $0.003300 $1.81 Total $38.20

plus Energy charge - Rate R 549 X $0.099200 Total $54.46
Electricity Consumption tax $0.00055/kWh

add them up and the bill is $92.96....not bad, considering it's usually higher, but we went two weeks without power due to the ice storm.
