Default Keep NH free

Tell your reps you don't want HB 383
Tell them you are an free individual that neither needs nor wants the goverment to force you to make your personal safety choices for you.

And remember it ain't about the goverment caring for you, it's about the money.

it seems to be a gimmick that comes around bi-annually....

hopefully, it will get shot down again. IMO if someone wants to be foolish, that is their right. We already have a seat belt law for kids 12 and under.

Default * a source of state revenue

Don't ever be mistaken about the fact that a seat belt will about anything less than the State's ability to fine those not complying with big brother's dictates. It will be an excellent source of revenue for balancing the budget and nothing more than an excuse for the cops to stop you + fish for other revenue.

Yankee, it all depends on how the law is written. In MD when they first began making it a law to wear your seatbelts, it was written that it wasn't a stoppable offence, but if you were stopped for some other reason (speeding, stop sign, accident..) and it was found you didn't have it on - or your passenger didn't- then it could be added to the list.

It stayed that way for a few years, and now has become a stoppable violation. I don't think I've heard of anyone being stopped just because of the lack of a seatbelt though.

Personally, this and the helmet law have been major things I point to with pride on how NH treats it's citizens like adults - giving them a choice. We all know the pros and cons of both sides. Children may need to be protected, adults should be allowed to make their own decision (as long as we don't have to pay for the repercussions). I'd really hate to see it change into the standard nanny laws.

raising hand here....it happened to me. However, the cop thought my mother was a minor. she was riding in the shotgun seat and she is tiny. There was no other reason to stop me, and of course, no ticket issued.

ok, well I was talking about how MD had instituted the seatbelt law (originally non-stoppable, and now it is), pointing out that it depends on how it's written up.

Glad he 'fessed up to his mistake and didn't cite you for anything else!

I got stopped in NC for not wearing the dang belt - not only was the fine only $25 bucks, but the court costs were another $75!! This bill is definitely not a choice and I really don't want to see it passed. (Although I was under the impression it was passed a few years ago??!)
