Moving to NH
We are moving from Minneapolis for my husbands job in Keene, NH in Mid March. We are looking at Keene and cities/good towns around Keene, within 30 miles.
We have a soon to be one year old child and are therefore looking at a family oriented, educated, cultural place, children activites, parks ; organic food..green living..
Also we would like to rent first before we decide where we want to live.
Would really appreciate inputs on the some good options to live around Keene.
Thank you so much..

how long a commute is your husband willing to deal with? I"m asking because a 30mile radius could be a loong commute (they aren't super highways, even if they are state route numbered)
Keene is I believe tied for being the 3rd largest 'city', and being a university town, will have a lot of variety (well, more than any of the surrounding towns). Of course it will also have a lot of university students and whatever you feel they bring to a town..

Jaffrey and Peterborough are the closest towns to Keene...but I'm not sure if you can get there in 30 minutes...possibly.
The closest city would probably be Brattleboro, VT.

Just wondering, if there are families with young children in Keene, and if so what kind of activities are there during the day for children. Coming from Minneapolis, where there are several activites for babies and toddlers, I am just curious more about this one thing more than anything else..
Thanks!

How easy is it to find a single family home or town home for rental in Keene or surrounding towns?
Since we want to first rent for a while before we decide where we want to live.
Thanks!

I would recommend you check out the NH Craig's list for rentals in the greater Keene area. The multiple listing service also has listings for rentals from time to time as well. With lots of homes on the market that are not selling, it may be worth approaching some of the real estate agents who have vacant listings about renting for a year.

I just checked nneren.com and there is one 2br condo (with garage) for rent in Keene. there's also a 2br in a victorian house in Marlborough.
I know there have been threads about the keene area, and which towns where better for schools and such - just try searching on Keene.
If you need maps for reference the towns around Keene to look at (or maps for lots of other reasons), there's a bunch of great reference stuff at http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-h...geography.html

Link had a good suggestion here of craigslist, but be very careful. There have been a number of people scammed recently on craigslist, and the money they lose is generally not recoverable. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is...

Thanks all for the recommendations.
How are towns like Rindge, Peterborought and Jaffery?
I know I don't have much choice, since my husband will be in Keene. But not having lived in a small town, I don't want to live in a very isolated place.
Also, have heard not much good things about the schools in the area.
Any inputs would be appreciated.

What is your idea of "isolated"?
If I were you, I'd stay close to Keene.
