exxons closing?
both exxon stations in my area (Tilton/Northfield) have changed to different gas companies, one to a shell and another to a Gulf. I was up in North Conway earlier this week and i noticed a new Gulf Station that had previously been Exxon. Is this happening all over the state? and if so, whats going on here?

Actually this is happening in NH and in other states. I read a while back that Exxon-Mobil was going to be closing stations and concentrate more on other parts of their business.

I noticed this as well. I have an Exxon/Mobil card that rebates 15 cents per gallon and many of the stations have changed over to Gulf or Irving...

Hi Everyone,Just found out Dh was talking to the station owner in town that changed hands and found out that Exxon is infringing on Irving's territory and they pay a fine on how much gas they sell. So owners are changing to Irving because of this reason.

vote with your wallet, using the capitalist laguage of money
Good enough for them, I hope they all go out. I won't even buy a doughnut from those creeps. I'd rather walk than support them.
They need to be held accountable for the Valdez accident, and its environmental effects even though it was really just the fault of the drunken captain. Add to that the price gouging they routinely practice. I understand the station owner-operators are not responsible for their reprehensible behavior. Perhaps if things get s bad for them, they can't give away a gallon of gas things may change. Exploitation of our wilderness areas is never a good idea regardless of how many lobbyists you can afford to employ on the proceeds of price gouging. One more reason to buy Chavez gas!

Oh for goodness sakes! You're as bad as a friend of mine. Yes, the Valdez accident was terrible. I think they've paid by now. They were certainly not the first oil spill, they've definitely not been the last, and never were the worst. they just had the loudest media. Accidents have been happening all over the world!
The Valdez spilled 10m gallons. That same year, an Iranian ship leaked 19 million gallons off the Canary Islands. The year before, the Odyssey spilled 43 million gallons off Newfoundland. During the Gulf War, Iraq dumped (purposely) 240–460 million gallons into the Gulf. In Angola, ABT Summer exploded and leaked 15–78 million gallons of their coast. When the Prestige's hull was damaged and towed to sea and sunk, it had 20 million gallons - dunno if they were loose or still in barrels. 7 million gallons of oil were spilled around our gulf during Katrina from assorted leaks, and such. and just yesterday (or is it today?) a Hong Kong registered ship just leaked about 20 tonnes of leaked fuel oil off Australia (no idea how many gallons that is). Amoco has had two large spills - one in '78 off France and one in '91 off Italy.
And these are just the big numbers. There's plenty of small spills in the hundreds of thousands. There's a lovely list by date at Oil Spills and Disasters — Infoplease.com and another list ranking the14 major spills around the world at Oil spill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -funny, the Valdez (or any Exxon named ship) isn't even on the list.
Around here, Exxon is no more expensive than anyone else. Frankly I see Amoco routinely higher. Exxon is perfectly competitive with the other gas stations, and sometimes cheaper. But no one will move beyond a single idiotic drunk in 1989. I'll gas up my car at whoever is cheaper and takes a credit card (with the possible exception of Citgo since I won't support the Venezualan gov't unless I have no choice before I'm out of gas on the side of the road).
And you'd rather buy gas from a tyrant who has come right and and said he hates our country rather than move on after 20 years and a lot worse spills before and after. Nice. remind me never to get a ride from you.

Yeah, that Chavez guy is a prince!
CARACAS, Venezuela (CNN) -- The government of President Hugo Chavez has chipped away at human rights in Venezuela during the 10 years he has held power, says a report released Thursday.
The report, presented in Caracas by Human Rights Watch's Americas director, Jose Miguel Vivanco, cited lack of autonomy among the nation's democratic institutions and loss of autonomy of the nation's high court as examples.
"During this decade, democracy and its key institutions have become seriously weakened, judicial power has lost independence, civil society has less space, the news media, too, and the unions -- the big, strong ones -- cannot exercise their rights," Vivanco said.
The government has responded to its critics with "an attitude of tremendous aggressivity," the 267-page report said.

But he has helped Joe For Oil which pays Joe Kennedy $800k/year to be in commercials and make nice with Chavez...
